Schunk Pick-And-Place Grippers

Angular grippers allow a more secure grip on irregularly shaped loads. Parallel grippers handle most shapes, including square, circular, and angled objects. Circular grippers are best for a snug grip on round objects.

Grippers with a forced-air jaw return have two air ports: one to move the jaws open and another to move them closed. The jaws grip items from the outside as well as the inside.

Grippers with steel jaws are harder and stronger than aluminum. IP67-rated grippers are dust tight and can be submerged in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes.

Note: Choose a gripper with a holding force at least 10 times your item's weight.

Optional Sensors

Add optional sensors to your gripper to signal when fingers are either open or closed (open and closed for sensors with two-position detection), and use that information to trigger other actions in your system. Since they’re magnetic, they detect the finger position using magnets placed on the piston.

Sensors with a plug connection work with the input/output on robot tool mounts with a power/signal block. Sensors with a hardwire connection have wire leads you either wire to a plug or hardwire to a power source.

NPN sensors communicate proximity with a negative signal, while PNP sensors send a positive signal.

Sensors with two-position detection send a signal when the fingers open and close, so you can trigger actions in your system based on both signals.

Adjustable Finger Mounts

Attach adjustable finger mounts to your Schunk grippers, so they can handle a wider range of part sizes and shapes. Each mount has a positioning slide that moves along a rail, which has a scale for making adjustments. Connect your fingers to the slides, position them on the rail, and tighten the knob to secure them in place. Use one mount for as many fingers as your gripper will hold.

Robot-Ready Air-Powered Grippers

Powered by compressed air, these grippers pick and place parts for machine-tending, packaging, and assembly tasks. They come with everything you need to connect to your robot, and built-in air control valves eliminate the need for complicated external systems. Just connect the included tubing to your air supply and control everything through your robot’s software. These grippers pick up parts from the inside or outside—for example, pick up a hollow part from the inside or a solid part from the outside. They also have a built-in blow-off nozzle that clears debris before pickup.

These grippers come with a robot mount, electrical connections, and software plug-ins tailored to FANUC CRX, Universal Robot (UR), and ABB arms. Add fingers and they’re ready to grip. Ready-to-use fingers are sold separately.

Unlike collaborative robot-ready grippers, these grippers operate at high forces. They may require additional safety precautions if you’re working near your collaborative robot.

These grippers come with a long electrical cord with wire leads that connect to terminals on your robot controller. Use the software plug-in to control these grippers from your teach pendant. Then you can use your teach pendant to open and close the grippers and toggle the air blow-off nozzle on or off.

The IP67-rated control box of these grippers shields the electrical components from coolant. Plus, their jaws are rated IP40, so solid objects, such as chips produced during machining, won’t obstruct their motion.

Choose a single gripper for simple pick-and-place operations. It holds one part at a time.

Dual grippers can help reduce cycle times by handling two parts at once. For example, you might use one gripper to unload a part from your machine, then rotate the robot arm and use the second gripper to load a new part.

Stroke width is the total distance the gripper fingers move when opened or closed.

Adjustable Finger Mounting Adapters

These adapters allow your gripper to handle a wider range of part sizes. You can also quickly adjust finger placement for different jobs. Each pair of adapters includes a jaw mount and a positioning slide for each jaw of your gripper. The jaw mounts slide into the gripper’s jaw and your fingers attach to the positioning slides. Scales on the jaw mounts let you precisely place the positioning slides. Once in place, tighten the thumb screws to secure them.

Electric-Powered Grippers

Unlike air-powered grippers, which leak air, these electric grippers won’t release dirt or particulates, making them good for pick-and-place assembly, packaging, and finishing jobs in labs, electronics plants, and other clean environments. All have a servomotor that opens and closes the grippers with equal force to grasp and release items from the inside or outside. A discrete I/O signal actuates the grippers with a set gripping force—use a screwdriver to select the force you’ll need. Since these grippers open and close at the same force and stroke with every cycle, they’re good for picking items of a similar size and material.

To determine if gripper fingers are open or closed, and use that information to trigger other actions, add a sensor. All of these grippers are compatible with PNP and NPN signal outputs, which means they can communicate proximity with a positive or negative signal.

They have one M8 4-pin connection, which brings power to the gripper and two digital input signals to the grippers' controller. All are compatible with optional inductive sensors.

Optional Sensors

Optional sensors signal when gripper fingers are either open or closed, and use that information to trigger other actions in your system. Magnetic sensors detect finger position by responding to magnets placed on the motor of electric-powered grippers. Use them with IP40 and IP64 grippers. Those with programmable two-position detection send a signal when fingers open and close, letting you trigger actions in your system based on both signals. Inductive sensors respond to a metallic flag on the gripper. They are not, however, the best choice for machining applications since metallic debris can accidentally trigger them. Use these sensors with IP30 grippers.

PNP sensors communicate proximity with a positive signal, while NPN send a negative signal.

Finger blanks come ready to mount, so you can make custom fingers without starting from scratch. Just machine the blank’s gripping end to create fingers that will securely grip your specific parts.

When used in pairs, individual blanks have a symmetrical design that’s suitable for most applications.

Aluminum blanks are lightweight and resist rusting in wet environments. They’re softer than steel blanks, making them easier to machine and less likely to scratch your parts.

Steel blanks are stronger and more durable than aluminum blanks, so they’re less likely to break if they hit a nearby object. You can harden them for even more strength and durability.

Gripper Compensation Devices

Compensation devices help you avoid jams and keep automated assembly, bin picking, and machine tending jobs running smoothly. They mount between your gripper and robot arm and have rubber pads that compress slightly when pressure is applied, allowing your grippers to adjust and grasp misaligned parts. These pads also compensate when aligning parts during placement, which increases efficiency and reliability in your process, while protecting parts and robots from wear.

These devices tilt and rotate on three axes, so grippers can grab parts in horizontal, vertical, and angled positions. They do not communicate with controllers, so there’s no need for electrical connections.

Robot-Ready Collaborative Electric Grippers

Machine-Tending Application

Work safely alongside collaborative robots as they perform machine tending, packaging, and assembly tasks. These grippers help you meet ISO/TS 15066 standards thanks to their built-in safety features—they limit gripping force to safe levels and have a plastic housing that protects you from pinch points and sharp edges in case of a collision.

These grippers come with a robot tool mount, electrical connections, and software plug-ins tailored for FANUC CRX and Universal Robots (UR) arms. Once you attach fingers, these grippers are ready to pick and place items. Ready-to-use fingers are sold separately or machine your own for more complex shapes.

Electrically powered and actuated entirely by your robot, these grippers don’t need a compressed air supply or complicated air control valves. They apply a set force every time the jaws move. Grip items from the outside or inside. For example, pick up a solid item from the outside and a hollow item from the inside. These grippers also have a built-in sensor that your robot can use to confirm that a part has been picked up.

FANUC-approved or UR+ certified, all grippers have been tested to work seamlessly with your robot. Once you attach the gripper to your robot, download the software plug-in and install it on your robot teach pendant. This allows you to use your teach pendant to open and close the grippers.

Each gripper has set gripping forces to pick up items. Use the switch to choose the appropriate force.

Grippers come with a short electrical cord that connects to the end of your robot arm.

Grippers with LED status ring can be programmed from your teach pendant to display one of three colors based on the gripper’s status. For example, display a green light if the gripper has picked up an item, yellow after releasing an item, and red if a pickup has failed. They include a 4 meter electrical cord with wire leads that connect to the terminals on your robot controller.

Stroke width is the maximum total change in distance between fingers when the gripper actuates.

Whether you’re packaging, assembling, or tending machines, these grippers come with everything needed to get your robot started. They’re versatile too, picking up parts from the outside or inside. A built-in sensor detects when the part is picked up, so your arm knows it can move to the next location.

They include a robot mount, electrical connections, and software plug-ins tailored to FANUC CRX and Universal Robot (UR) arms. There’s no need for compressed air or tricky valve setups—these grippers are fully powered and actuated by your robot. Just add fingers and they’re ready to grip. Choose a single gripper for simple pick-and-place operations. It holds one part at a time.

Dual grippers can help reduce cycle times by handling two parts at once. You can use one gripper to unload a part from your machine, then rotate the robot arm and use the second gripper to load a new part.

Stroke width is the total distance the gripper fingers move when opened or closed.
