Class X Plug Gauges

Go/No-Go Hex Plug Gauges with Handle

Confirm hex drives on socket head screws are within tolerance. A go and no-go gauge in one, these gauges are handy for testing hole size and depth in machining and manufacturing. Their handle gives you a good grip to insert each end into the hole you’re measuring. If the go gauge enters the hole and the no-go gauge is unable to enter, the hole is within tolerance. Gauges are made of tool steel, the most common material for plug gauges, because it’s strong, hard, and resistant to wear.

All come with an accuracy certificate traceable to NIST to certify their sizes are within tolerance. They also meet ASME B18.3, the same dimensional standards for hex drive fasteners.

Plug Gauges with Handle

Take go and no-go measurements with the same tool. These gauges have a go gauge on one end, a no-go gauge on the other end, and a handle with bushings. They are used for precision go/no-go measuring of hole sizes and depths, checking hole location and distance, and setting micrometers. All come with an accuracy certificate traceable to NIST.

Check the minimum hole diameter with the go gauge end, and check the maximum hole diameter with the no-go gauge end. If the go gauge enters the hole and the no-go gauge is unable to enter, the hole is within tolerance.

Plug Gauge Sets

Keep dozens of plug gauges on hand to check a range of hole sizes. You’ll often hear them called pin gauges. Use them to measure hole size and depth with precise go/no-go tests, check hole location and distance, and set micrometers. Sets include a manufacturer's certificate of accuracy to certify diameters are within tolerance. Gauges are tool steel, so they’re strong, hard, and resist wear.

If a go gauge can enter the hole and a no-go gauge is unable to enter, the hole is within tolerance.

Choose a class based on the level of precision you need—the smaller the tolerance, the greater the accuracy. Classes are based on ASME standard B89.1.5, which states diameter won’t vary more than the listed plug gauge tolerance.
