Dowel Pins

Use dowel pins as pivots, hinges, shafts, jigs, and fixtures to locate or hold parts. For a tight fit, your hole should be equal to or slightly smaller than the diameter shown. Breaking strength is measured as double shear, which is the force required to break a pin into three pieces.
Steel pins are the strongest dowel pins. Steel pins are precision ground except for 1/32" diameter pins. Stainless steel pins are more corrosion resistant than steel pins. Pins that are passivated offer added protection against corrosion and oxidation. Stainless steel pins are precision ground except for 1/64" diameter pins. 18-8 stainless steel pins offer a balance of strength and corrosion resistance. They may be mildly magnetic. 316 stainless steel pins have the best corrosion resistance of our stainless steel pins. They may be mildly magnetic. Some pins meet material and dimensional standards set by ASME, Mil. Spec., DIN, or ISO. DIN 6325-m6 is functionally equivalent to ISO 8734, with slight differences in hardness and length tolerances. ISO 2338-m6 is functionally equivalent to DIN 7, but the ends are chamfered instead of rounded.

Pull-Out Dowel Pins

One end of these pins is tapped, and the other is chamfered for easy insertion. To remove, thread a screw or tool into the tapped hole, then pull the pin out. Because they aren't vented, they work best in through holes. Use them as pivots, hinges, shafts, jigs, and fixtures to locate or hold parts. Pins are precision ground for accurate alignment. Breaking strength is measured as double shear, which is the force required to break a pin into three pieces.
Metric pins meet DIN 7979D-m6 specifications.
Steel pins have good strength.

Use with internally threaded dowel pins. A complete tool requires a puller handle and a tip that fits your pin. You’ll also need a socket head cap screw that can thread into the pin. To use, thread a tip into the puller handle and fit the other end of the tip over the screw. Slide the weight along the handle to push or pull.
Flat-Vent Pull-Out Dowel Pins

The flat side of these pins relieves trapped air, making them easier to insert and remove from blind holes. One end is tapped and the other is chamfered for easy insertion. To remove, thread a screw or tool into the tapped hole, then pull them out. Use them as pivots, hinges, shafts, jigs, and fixtures to locate or hold parts. Pins are precision ground for accurate alignment. Breaking strength is measured as double shear, which is the force required to break a pin into three pieces.
Metric pins meet DIN standards.
Steel pins have good strength.

Hollow Dowel Pins

Pass wires and other components through these hollow pins. They're precision ground for accurate alignment and have chamfered ends for easy insertion. For the best fit, install them in a hole equal to or slightly smaller than the diameter shown. Pins are made of steel for good strength.

Clevis Pins

An alternative to bolts and rivets, these pins lock in place with a cotter pin. Choose a clevis pin and add your own cotter pin, or select a clevis pin that includes a reusable hairpin cotter pin.
Steel pins have good strength. Pins with a zinc-plated finish have some corrosion resistance.

Flat-Head Quick-Release Pins

These pins have a low-profile head, so they won't get knocked out of place. Pins have a spring-loaded ball that pops out when the pin is pushed into a hole, and retracts when the pin is pulled out. For the best fit, the hole should be as close to the diameter as possible, but not larger than the diameter at extended ball height.

Strong-Hold Quick-Release Pins

Two spring-loaded balls give these pins more holding power than quick-release pins with only one retaining ball. They pop out when the pin is pushed into a hole, and retract when the pin is pulled out. For the best fit, the hole should be as close to the diameter as possible, but not larger than the diameter at extended ball height.

T-Handle Locking Quick-Release Pins

For a more secure hold than standard quick-release pins, these pins lock in place until you push the button to release the spring-loaded retaining balls. A T-handle makes them easy to grip. Use them in a hole as close to the diameter as possible, but not larger than the diameter at extended ball height. Pins are made of 17-4 PH stainless steel for strength with some corrosion resistance, and passivated for added protection against corrosion and oxidation. They are magnetic. Breaking strength is measured as double shear, which is the force required to break a pin into three pieces.

Ejector Pins

Also known as knockout and forged pins, use these pins to push parts out of molds. Pins are precision-ground to tight tolerances and hardened for strength and wear resistance. Machining is not recommended.
H13 tool steel pins resist rapid changes in temperature.
Metric pins meet DIN 1530 specifications.
For technical drawings and 3-D models, click on a part number.
Slotted Spring Pins
Also known as roll, tension, split, and expansion pins, these pins have a slot along one side that you squeeze closed to install them into unthreaded holes. Once installed, they expand slightly, creating outward tension that holds them tight against the hole wall. These pins absorb shock and vibration in your system, and keep parts from loosening. They are often used as hinge pins, or to hold springs and power transmission components in place.
Install these pins into a hole. They have at least one chamfered end, which means the end is angled to make insertion easier.
Breaking strength is measured as double shear, which is the amount of force required to break a pin into three pieces.
Some metric pins with the same diameter come in two different wall thicknesses. Thinner walls are more flexible, easier to install, and won’t weigh down your assembly as much as thicker pins. Layer a pin with a thin wall inside a pin with a thicker wall to increase the breaking strength. Make sure the slots are opposite one another for maximum strength.
Steel pins are strong and wear resistant.
Pins that meet specifications for ISO 8752 (formerly DIN 1481) or ISO 13337 (formerly DIN 7346) adhere to international standards for pin dimensions.
