Dowel Pins

Use dowel pins as pivots, hinges, shafts, jigs, and fixtures to locate or hold parts. For a tight fit, your hole should be equal to or slightly smaller than the diameter shown. Breaking strength is measured as double shear, which is the force required to break a pin into three pieces.
Steel pins are the strongest dowel pins. Steel pins are precision ground except for 1/32" diameter pins. Stainless steel pins are more corrosion resistant than steel pins. Pins that are passivated offer added protection against corrosion and oxidation. Stainless steel pins are precision ground except for 1/64" diameter pins. 18-8 stainless steel pins offer a balance of strength and corrosion resistance. They may be mildly magnetic. 316 stainless steel pins have the best corrosion resistance of our stainless steel pins. They may be mildly magnetic. 416 stainless steel pins are more wear resistant than other stainless pins, but not as corrosion resistant. They are magnetic.

Plastic Dowel Pins

Plastic pins are a nonconductive and nonmagnetic alternative to metal dowel pins, so they're useful in electronic applications. Use them as pivots, hinges, shafts, jigs, and fixtures to locate or hold parts.
Acetal plastic and PTFE plastic pins are slippery, so they make excellent pivots. Acetal pins resist wear.
Polycarbonate plastic pins have excellent impact resistance. Use them where pounding and flexing could crack other plastic. They're clear for inconspicuous fastening.
PEEK plastic pins are an alternative to metal pins in high-temperature, high-stress applications. They resist chemicals, wear, and moisture.

Core Pins

Mold plastic around these pins to form small holes, or use them to perforate parts. They have a flat head to fit into a counterbored hole. Pins can be machined to fit your application. They're precision-ground to tight tolerances. Made of M2 tool steel, these pins are wear resistant and stay sharp at high temperatures.

Flush-Mount Core Pins

A 60° beveled head fits into a countersunk hole. Mold plastic around these pins to form small holes, or use them to perforate parts. Also known as perforator, mold, forged, quill, and pilot pins, they can be machined to fit your application. Pins are precision-ground to tight tolerances. Made of M2 tool steel, these pins are wear-resistant and stay sharp at high temperatures.

Ejector Pins

Also known as knockout and forged pins, use these pins to push parts out of molds. Pins are precision-ground to tight tolerances and hardened for strength and wear resistance. Machining is not recommended.
H13 tool steel pins resist rapid changes in temperature.

Shoulder-Style Ejector Pins

A thick shoulder underneath the head makes these pins more rigid than standard ejector pins. Also known as knockout and forged pins, use them to push parts out of molds. They're precision-ground to tight tolerances and hardened for strength and wear resistance. Machining is not recommended.
Pins are made of H13 tool steel to resist rapid changes in temperature.

Cotter Pins

Also known as split pins, these have one prong slightly longer than the other so they’re easy to open. Bend prongs outward to secure. Use them to secure the ends of clevis pins and shafts to keep components in place.
Steel pins have good strength. Pins with a zinc-plated finish have some corrosion resistance.
18-8 stainless steel pins offer a balance of strength and corrosion resistance. They may be mildly magnetic.
For technical drawings and 3-D models, click on a part number.
Coiled Spring Pins

These spiral pins remain flexible after installation, so they absorb shock and vibration better than slotted spring pins. They work well in holes that are out of round. Use them for fastening, pivoting, and holding.
Squeeze pins closed and install them in a hole. Tension holds them tight against the hole wall. The chamfered ends aid insertion.
Breaking strength is measured as double shear, which is the force required to break a pin into three pieces.
18-8 stainless steel pins resist corrosion better than 420 stainless steel pins. They may be mildly magnetic.
420 stainless steel pins resist wear as well as corrosion. They are magnetic.
Passivated pins offer added protection against corrosion and oxidation.
Inch pins meet ASME B18.8.2 specifications for material and dimensions.
