    About Pipe and Fittings
    industrial info icon

Measure your pipe and fittings to identify their pipe size, thread size, schedule, and thread type. Then, find compatible components.

Standard-Wall Plastic Pipe Fittings for Water

Connect these fittings to Schedule 40 plastic pipe–they are the industry standard for residential and commercial low-pressure plumbing and water supply applications. They are plastic for good corrosion resistance.
To prevent leaks in threaded connections, apply a sealant to the male threads. Threaded connections can be taken apart as needed for maintenance and repair. For metal threads, use PTFE tape. For plastic threads, apply a non-hardening, plastic-compatible sealant. Tape or sealants with PTFE are not recommended for plastic-to-plastic connections. When making a threaded connection be careful not to overtighten the threads. To prevent cracks and leaks, finger tighten the fitting, then wrench-tighten one to two turns.
Warning: Never use plastic pipe fittings, flanges, and pipe with compressed air or gas.
Note: For fittings that are not rated for pressure, you can use the pressure rating of the plastic pipe as a reference. Threaded fittings are limited to 50% of the rated pressure of the pipe.

Cement-Socket Fitting Connection—Attach socket-connect ends to unthreaded pipe or another socket-connect fitting with a PVC primer and cement (also known as solvent weld).
Push-to-Connect Grip Ring Fitting Connection—Fittings with a push-to-connect end don’t require cement or thread sealant to connect, so they are quicker to install than socket-connect and threaded fittings. Insert pipe into the end of the fitting—a metal grip ring holds the pipe in place, creating a strong, permanent connection.
NSF/ANSI 61—To adhere to safety standards for drinking water systems, use pipe that meets NSF/ANSI 61.

Thick-Wall Plastic Pipe Fittings for Water

Connect these fittings to Schedule 80 pipe. With thicker, stronger walls than standard-wall fittings, they can handle heavy duty supply applications, such as water processing, wastewater treatment, and irrigation. Fittings are plastic for good corrosion resistance. They meet ASTM specifications and testing requirements for material quality.

    CPVC Pipe Fittings for Chemicals

Made of CPVC, these fittings withstand salt solutions, acids, and other harsh substances. They have thick, strong walls to handle heavy duty industrial plumbing and water supply applications, such as water processing and wastewater treatment. These fittings are comparable to Corzan. Some meet ASTM D1784 specifications and testing requirements for material quality.

80 Pipe Schedule—Schedule 80 fittings have thick, strong walls for heavy duty, industrial applications.

Clear-View Standard-Wall Plastic Pipe Fittings for Water

Watch water flow through your line. These fittings are compatible with Schedule 40 pipe, the industry standard for residential and commercial low-pressure plumbing and water supply. Made of PVC, they have good corrosion resistance. All meet ASTM D1784 specifications and testing requirements for material quality and NSF/ANSI Standard 61 for drinking water.

Thick-Wall Plastic Pipe Flanges for Water

Also known as Pressure Class 150 flanges, these flanges have thick, strong walls to handle heavy duty industrial plumbing and water supply applications, such as water processing, waste water treatment, and irrigation. They meet NSF/ANSI 61 for drinking water. Bolt two same-size flanges together with a gasket (sold separately) to create an access point within a line. All are PVC, which has good corrosion resistance. Some are also glass filled for extra durability. They meet ASTM D1784 specifications and testing requirements for material quality.
To prevent leaks in threaded connections, apply a sealant to the male threads. Threaded connections can be taken apart as needed for maintenance and repair. For metal threads, use PTFE tape. CPVC Pipe Flanges for Chemicals

Made of CPVC, these flanges withstand salt solutions, acids, and other harsh substances. Bolt two same-size flanges together with a gasket (sold separately) to create an access point within a line. Also known as Pressure Class 150 flanges, they have thick, strong walls to handle heavy duty industrial plumbing and water supply applications, such as water processing and wastewater treatment. These flanges are comparable to Corzan. They meet ASTM D1784 specifications and testing requirements for material quality.
To prevent leaks in threaded connections, apply a sealant to the male threads. Threaded connections can be taken apart as needed for maintenance and repair. For metal threads, use PTFE tape.

Plastic Barbed Pipe Fittings for Water

Use these barbed pipe fittings in residential and commercial plumbing and water supply applications. Also known as insert fittings, they have a barbed end that slides into semi-flexible plastic pipe and secures with a clamp (sold separately). Since you don't have to wait for cement to dry, they're quicker to install than socket-connect fittings. They meet ASTM D2609 specifications for barb dimensions.
Note: Barbed pipe fittings are measured by pipe size, which is not an actual measured size, but rather an industry designation.
