Lift and move items in pick-and-place operations where small particles could damage sensitive electronics. To limit contamination, these grippers have a port you can connect to a vacuum pump to capture particles. Use them with gripping fingers to grab items. They use forced air to move the jaws: one air port pushes them open and another closes them.

Parallel grippers handle most shapes, including square, circular, and angled objects. Those with stainless steel jaws are cleaned and bagged in environments with low levels of particulates.

Circular grippers are best for a snug grip on round objects.

IP54 rated grippers can also be used in areas that may be exposed to water. They seal out dust and splashed water. To upgrade their protection to an IP67 rating, attach a ventilation hose using a connector (both not included) to the ventilation port. This allows them to be temporarily submerged.

These grippers pick up a product and turn it 180° before releasing. Use them with gripping fingers to lift and move items in pick-and-place applications. They have two air ports: one to move the jaws open and another to move them closed. The jaws can grip items from the outside as well as the inside.

Finger blanks (sold separately) come ready to mount, so you can make custom fingers without starting from scratch. Just machine the blank’s gripping end to create fingers that will securely grip your specific parts.

When used in pairs, individual blanks have a symmetrical design that’s suitable for most applications.

Uncut pair blanks can be cut off center, making them good for applications where symmetrical fingers may hit nearby objects, such as when moving around machine spindles and parts trays during machine tending.

Aluminum blanks are lightweight and resist rusting in wet environments. They’re softer than steel blanks, making them easier to machine and less likely to scratch your parts.

Steel blanks are stronger and more durable than aluminum blanks, so they’re less likely to break if they hit a nearby object. You can harden them for even more strength and durability.

The needles on these grippers grab hold of flexible and porous items that are difficult for vacuum cups and magnetic grippers to grasp, such as fabric, foam, glass and metal fiber, and carpet. Since needles puncture items, they are not the best choice for delicate or fragile pieces. Paired with an air system, all of these grippers are good for lifting and moving items at any angle in a variety of automated production lines and pick-and-place systems. CE-marked, they meet stringent European Union safety standards.

When choosing a needle gripper, you must consider the construction of the items you’re moving to determine the diameter, number, and stroke length of the needles you’ll need. For example, fine-woven thin materials require smaller diameter needles than loosely woven thick materials. Use the size and flexibility of your items to guide how many needles are best—larger and more flexible pieces require more needles for a secure hold. The needles extend to grip items and contract to release them, so use the longest stroke length possible for a secure hold. The stroke length, however, should be less than the depth of the item.
