Swirl-Free Air-Powered Disc Sanders
For a more consistent finish than rotary or orbital disc sanders, these move sanding discs in small irregular circles to prevent swirl marks. Also known as random orbital sanders. They work with either adhesive-back discs or hook and loop discs.
Dust-collecting sanders come ready to hook up to a dust-collection kit (sold separately). This helps keep your work surface clean and prevents buildup that might wear down the abrasive.
Light duty sanders are good for small projects and touch-up work. They have one speed. Medium duty sanders work well for general purpose sanding. To adjust how much material they remove, turn the dial with your thumb as you sand to change the speed. Heavy duty sanders can be used continuously to sand most surfaces. They run at a steady speed and balance power and weight, so you can achieve your finish faster than light and medium duty sanders. They'll maintain speed when sanding tough surfaces.
Sanders with a 3/8" orbit diameter are good for aggressive sanding, such as shaping material. They remove material the quickest and leave the coarsest finish on your work surface. Sanders with a 3/16" orbit diameter balance removal speed with finish quality and leave you with a moderately smooth finish on your work surface. Sanders with a 3/32" orbit diameter remove material the slowest but leave the finest finish on your work surface.

Static-Control Swirl-Free Air-Powered Disc Sanders

Dissipate electrostatic discharge (ESD) for safety when sanding. These sanders have a copper ground wire to divert ESD away from users, sensitive equipment, and combustible materials. They’re often used for sanding across multiple materials—such as wood to fiberglass—as doing so can generate harmful static. Connect the copper wire to the ground of either a vacuum system or an outlet. These sanders also have two 1-megaohm resistors for protection in case there’s accidental contact with an electrical current.
Also known as random orbital sanders, these sanders move in small irregular circles. No single part of the abrasive follows the same path twice, resulting in a swirl-free finish. This leaves a more consistent finish than rotary or orbital disc sanders. To prevent clogs and remove debris from your environment, attach these sanders to a vacuum system. Designed for heavy duty applications, these sanders are powerful enough to quickly remove lots of material without getting bogged down. And they’re lightweight, so they’re easy to control and won’t tire you out after long periods of use. Use with hook and loop sanding discs.

Air-Powered Disc Sanders
With a fixed rotary movement, these sanders remove more material from workpieces than random orbital sanders. However, they may leave swirl marks on the surface as a result.
Sanders for adhesive-back discs come with a backup pad for use with adhesive-back discs.

Dual-Action Air-Powered Disc Sanders

Use a single sander for the entire process of cleaning and prepping your workpiece—these sanders move in both rotary and random orbital motion with the flip of a switch. To remove paint, rust and other materials, you’ll want to use the rotary motion. Shift to the random orbital motion to smooth and blend the surface without leaving swirl marks behind. To prevent you from accidentally bumping the switch, it’s recessed in the top of these sanders. Use with hook and loop sanding discs.
Dust-collecting sanders keep your work surface clean and reduce the amount of dust flying in the air. They also keep your sanding abrasive from getting clogged, so it will last longer. They have a self-generated vacuum built in, so you can hook them up to a portable dust collection kit (sold separately) that includes a 6 ft. long hose and reusable collection bag. Alternatively, you can hook these sanders up to a central vacuum system.

Swirl-Free Electric Disc Sanders

Prevent swirl marks to leave a more consistent finish than rotary disc sanders. Also known as random orbital sanders, these sanders move in small irregular circles. No single part of the abrasive follows the same path twice, resulting in a swirl-free finish. A dust collection system draws dust through the sanding pad and into a collection canister. This keeps your work surface clean and reduces how much dust is kicked into the air. Use with hook and loop sanding discs.
Sanders cannot be sold outside the United States due to product regulations.

Cordless Swirl-Free Disc Sanders
Create a consistent finish on quick sanding jobs where you don’t have access to air or electric power. Also known as random orbital sanders, they move in small irregular circles to leave a more consistent finish than rotary disc sanders. The variable-speed motor lets you set the speed for any task, from heavy material removal to delicate surface sanding. To conform to curves and crevices for a consistent finish, they include a cushioning pad. Use these sanders with hook and loop sanding discs. The battery and charger are also sold separately.
To remove dust from the air and extend the life of the sanding sheet, these sanders have a dust collection bag.

These sanders have a brushless motor to reduce friction and optimize battery life. The motor runs cool and has few moving parts that require maintenance.

Sanding Disc Trimmers
Save the usable inner part of a worn disc. These tools work like a can opener to trim the perimeter of the disc down to the next smaller size. Trimmers are compatible with all replacement blades.
Trimmers for ceramic alumina and zirconia alumina have blades that are cryogenically treated. Freezing temperatures are used to harden the blades and increase their wear resistance, so they can cut through tougher abrasives than untreated blades.
