    Sanding Belts for Aluminum, Soft Metals, and Nonmetals

    One of the sharpest abrasives, the silicon carbide on these belts sands soft metals and nonmetals like aluminum and rubber with ease, and it generates minimal heat to prevent material buildup. These belts have a slick coating that prevents dust and debris from building up on the abrasive surface. The coating also helps keep operating temperature down to reduce wear of the abrasive.     Uniform-Finish Clog-Resistant Sanding Belts

    Like tank treads, these belts have wide gaps to collect and channel away debris as they turn. Multiple layers of abrasive arranged in a brick pattern create highly consistent finishes. The layers contain up to four times as much abrasive material as other sanding belts, so they last longer.
    The most common abrasive material, aluminum oxide is hard enough to sand most materials. It costs less than zirconia alumina but wears down faster.

    Fast-Cutting Sanding Belts

    Sanding belts with ceramic alumina abrade hard metals like stainless steel because of their sharp, outwardly pointed grit. The grain particles continually fracture to produce new, sharp cutting edges while maintaining their specially engineered points and angle. The design also reduces heat generation while sanding, which prevents the grit from wearing down. These belts are also good for sanding steel and soft metals.

    Made of nylon mesh, these belts compensate for uneven sanding pressure to create a smooth, consistent finish on workpieces. Silicon carbide—one of the sharpest abrasives—is embedded in the mesh, so these belts sand quickly with light pressure. They stay cool while sanding, which keeps material from building up on the surface. These belts are very fine grade, so they’re best for removing light scratches, polishing, and preparing surfaces for painting.
