Start building your scaffold with end frames. They have pins with locking arms welded to each side for attaching braces. End frames on the same level must be the same height.

Use braces to secure end frames together. The ends of each brace fit over the pins on an end frame, and a locking arm secures them in place.

For every pair of end frames, you’ll need two cross braces—one for each side of the scaffold. If your platform is over 10 ft. high, add a bottom diagonal brace on the lowest level. Also known as gooser braces, they connect two opposite corners to add stability and keep your scaffold square.

Pins are used to join components together.

Both a coupling pin and spring clip pin are needed to secure end frames together as you stack them. They’re also used to secure posts to end frames.

Pig tail and toggle pins fit through a hole in a coupling pin and a frame to lock them together. You can also use them to secure posts to end frames.

Use base plates to create a stationary foundation for the scaffold. You’ll need at least four—one for each corner of the scaffold.

For a mobile scaffold, use casters as the base. You’ll need at least four—one for each corner of the scaffold.

Leveling jack feet create a stable foundation for your scaffold on uneven ground. They adjust in increments less than an inch, so you can set each leg of your scaffold to the exact height you need. You’ll need at least four—one for each corner of the scaffold.

Hollow feet are lighter in weight than solid feet, so they’re easier to handle. Solid feet support heavier loads than hollow feet.

Use planks to create a platform. For each level of your scaffold, you’ll need either three planks that are 19" or 19 1/16" wide or two planks that are 28" wide. Fit the hooks on each end onto your frame to secure them in place. To create a level walking surface, use planks that are all the same size and material.

Plywood planks have an aluminum frame and plywood walking surface. When the walking surface wears out, you can replace it with a sheet of 5/8" thick plywood—just cut it to fit the frame. Planks with an access door let you climb down through the platform when you’re in tight spots.

Aluminum planks hold up to wear and moisture better than plywood planks.

Add posts to a platform to support guardrails. They have welded pins that hold the guardrails in place. Attach the base of each post to your end frame with a coupling pin, a spring clip pin, and either a pig tail or a toggle pin (all sold separately).

Install guardrails on your platform to help prevent falls. Slip each end of a guardrail over the pins on a post.

Use toeboards to create a raised edge around the platform so you don’t accidentally knock tools off the side.
