About Cam Latches and Locks
More
Spring-Cam Slotted-Drive Locks
These locks have a spring-wire cam that slips under a receiving catch on a cabinet body to create tension and hold cabinet doors and drawers closed. To latch, turn the head a quarter-turn to draw the cam against the door or drawer surface. A quarter-turn in the opposite direction releases the tension and opens the door or drawer.
Locks with a serrated-spring cam grip tighter than those with a smooth-spring cam to help retain their hold. They’re best for high-vibration applications.
Fastener-mount locks are easy to remove and replace for maintenance.
Use weld-on locks for a permanent, more secure installation than fastener-mount locks.
Zinc- and copper-plated steel locks are mildly corrosion resistant.
300-series stainless steel locks are more corrosion resistant than zinc- and copper-plated steel locks, so they’re less likely to rust.

Vibration-Resistant Slotted-Drive Cam Locks

A spring-loaded bushing keeps your door from vibrating open. These locks combine the vibration resistance of a tight-hold lock with the simple operation of a quarter-turn cam lock. However, they don't close as tightly as tight-hold locks. They open and close with a slotted screwdriver, so they’re great if you want a simple keying system for your enclosure. These locks help sealed enclosures maintain an IP65 level of protection by preventing water, dirt, and dust from getting in through the lock. All come with multiple cams to accommodate different latching distances.

Square-Drive Cam Locks

These locks open with a square key, so they're more secure than locks that open with a hex or slotted driver yet still match a common keying system for industrial enclosures and other machinery.
Locks with a fixed latching distance are best when you know the precise distance you need. Since you won’t have to adjust the cam into position, these are faster to install than those with an adjustable latching distance. Locks with multiple latching distances include multiple cams, so you can change the fixed latching distance.
Locks with an adjustable latching distance handle a wide range of latching distances, so they’re best for tasks when precise distances are unknown. Adjust the position of the cam before you begin to install them.
Locks with a roller or protected cam rotate more smoothly than those with other straight and offset cams, making them easier to open and close. The cam won't scrape paint or metal chips off the frame that can damage items in the enclosure. The roller cam also compresses a bit to help minimize rattling from vibration.
Locks with a curved cam push closed without a tool or key. When pushed, the curved design lets the cam pivot slightly around the strike plate, securing the lock. To open them, turn the latch—the cam springs back so it's ready to be pushed closed again.
Stainless steel and plastic locks are more corrosion resistant than zinc locks, so they’re best for areas that are constantly exposed to moisture. Plastic locks are also nonconductive and lighter in weight. However, they’re easier to drill into or tamper with than the metal locks.
Style B locks have a low-profile design, so they won’t snag straps or other items passing by. They project further into the enclosure than other locks with a fixed latching distance. All meet EN 45545 standards for flammability.
Style C locks have a pull tab that makes it easier to open doors than locks without a tab.
Style E locks meet EN 45545 standards for flammability.
IP or NEMA rated locks help keep your sealed enclosure's contents safe from dust and water damage. This helps maintain your enclosure's IP or NEMA rating for washdowns or brief submersions.

Tight-Hold Swing-Handle Padlockable Multipoint Latches

Join a handle with a cam latch and rod to create a padlockable latching system that securely fastens doors at multiple points. The handle lies flat when locked, which means it won’t snag anything passing by. Also known as compression cam latches, these latches create a tighter hold than a traditional cam latch, making them useful for doors that have a seal. Turn the handle a quarter turn to lock, then turn it another quarter turn to create compression and minimize rattling from vibration. Add a padlock for extra security.
Weld cam latches to the inside of your enclosure door. All come with multiple cams, so you can change their fixed latching distance. Latches for one rod can be used as the main latch with a handle to control one additional latch point. You can also use them as a final latch point along a line in your multipoint system. Latches for two rods can be used as the main latch with a handle that controls two additional latch points. You can also use them as a midpoint latch that is controlled by the main latch for operating yet another latch along your multipoint system. Use 90° redirect cam latches on the inside corners of your door to redirect your multi-point latching system 90° and add additional points along other edges of the door.
Rods connect latches to each other. Cut them to the length you need.
