    Horizontal Benchtop Optical Comparators

Measure and inspect precise features by projecting a magnified shadow or image of your part onto a screen. These optical comparators work similarly to overhead projectors, but with fixed magnification to preserve proportions. Because of how easy they are to set up and use, they’re a staple in most machine shops. From o-rings to castings, they work to inspect parts with simple or complex geometries. They shine light from the side, so unlike vertical comparators, your part can be held from underneath for stability. Unlike traditional optical comparators, these comparators are compact to fit easily on a benchtop.
To use these comparators, choose profile or surface lighting. Profile lighting creates a shadow of your part, which you can use to plot points for precise measurements. To plot each point, move the stage the parts rests on until the point lines up with the crosshair on the projector screen. For precision, the stage moves in increments thinner than a sheet of paper. Surface lighting makes these comparators work like an illuminated magnifier, blanketing the part with even light to reveal scratches, dents, and other surface flaws.
These comparators come with a variety of features to streamline your inspection process. For a quick way to compare manufactured parts to designs, set desired dimension and tolerance limits. You can also create a program that guides anyone using the comparator on what steps to follow, so each part is inspected the same way. To save everything for later, print the data or export it as a spreadsheet or text file to a computer with a USB or RS-232 connection.
Changing the magnification is as easy as twisting the current lens until it pops out and twisting in a new lens (sold separately).

    Digital Outside Micrometers

Image of Product. Front orientation. Outside Micrometers. Digital Outside Micrometers.
The simplest-to-use micrometers. Their LCD display gives instant measurements down to 0.00005”—no need to read scales. Swap between inch and metric or set the position to zero, all with the press of a button.
You can always expect accuracy with our micrometers. The anvil and spindle are precision ground to exact dimensions for reliable readings every time.
Starrett—Starrett micrometers come packaged in their iconic red case, so you'll be able to spot them on the busiest of bench tops.
Calibration Certificate—Choose these micrometers when precision measurements are required for quality control or by regulation. The certificate is traceable to NIST, so you can be confident your measurements are correct and consistent.
Friction Thimble—Control how tightly the spindle closes on your part without the risk of damaging it. You can keep extending the spindle in small increments once it reaches your workpiece but not enough to overtighten. The thimble will start to resist turning to let you know you’ve applied the right amount of pressure.
Zero-Position Memory (ABS)—Retain the micrometer's position when turned off, so you don't need to reset the zero point each time. Also called absolute (ABS) positioning.

Starrett Digital Precision Measuring Tool Sets

Image of Product. Front orientation. Precision Measuring Tool Sets. Starrett Digital Precision Measuring Tool Sets.
Set includes a caliper, a micrometer, and a case. The micrometer has a friction thimble with a constant-force mechanism, so that once the spindle contacts the surface of the measured object, it will stop tightening. This ensures repeatable measurements and prevents over-tightening. Once the spindle stops tightening, the thimble will continue turning with resistance.
Zero-position memory, also known as absolute (ABS) positioning, retains the measuring position when the caliper or micrometer is turned off. A zero-set button allows you to start measuring at any point.

This set comes with calibration certificates traceable to NIST that state each tool has passed a test for accuracy. It includes a caliper, a micrometer, and a case. The micrometer has a friction thimble with a constant-force mechanism, so that once the spindle contacts the surface of the measured object, it will stop tightening. This ensures repeatable measurements and prevents over-tightening. Once the spindle stops tightening, the thimble will continue turning with resistance.

    Coolant-Resistant Digital Outside Micrometers

Image of Product. Front orientation. Outside Micrometers. Coolant-Resistant Digital Outside Micrometers.
Measure parts inside CNC machines and other places coated with coolant and cutting oil. The display and battery cover are tightly sealed, so spraying and dripping fluids won't seep in.
With an LCD display, these micrometers give instant measurements—no need to read scales. Swap between inch and metric or set the position to zero, all with the press of a button. You don't need to reset the zero point since they retain their position when turned off, also known as absolute (ABS) positioning.
Starrett—Precision machined and tested in the U.S. These Starrett micrometers come packaged in their iconic red case, so you'll be able to spot them on the busiest of bench tops.
With SPC Data Output—Send measurements to a computer or data processor to store, analyze, and manage data. You'll need a data cable or SPC wireless transmitter and receiver.

    Pistol-Grip Gauge

    Pistol-Grip Gauge Set

Check the diameter of holes with the pull of a trigger. These Starrett sets have everything you need for one-handed measurements—a pistol-grip gauge, heads for varying diameters, and setting rings. Thanks to its pistol grip, you can reach the gauge into awkward spots, such as those overhead. The pistol grip also gives you precise control using just your fingertips instead of your whole hand. Unlike dial bore gauges, you can measure right away, no baseline measurement required. You can even set upper and lower tolerances for quick go/no-go tests. The LCD display has lights and arrows to show if the hole falls within your set tolerance. Rotate the display to read results at the angle you need.
Since the gauge has three contact points, it’s more accurate than a typical bore gauge with two contact points. The probe centers itself, so it’s easier to detect issues with roundness, a common check in quality control tests. To stay accurate, the gauge has alarms to warn you about problems that could skew readings, such as a low battery, a contaminated probe, and test setting errors. Use the included setting rings to calibrate your gauge.
With a zero-set button, you can start measuring at any point. Zero-position memory, also known as absolute (ABS) positioning, retains the measuring position when the gauge is off. Connect the gauge to your computer, smartphone, or other device via Bluetooth or the SPC data output to monitor and analyze data in real time.
