    Steel—Steel hooks are uncoated. They are often used to hold items for painting because you can remove paint from the hooks using heat, chemicals, or tumbling. The longer the hook, the lower your material will hang, helping you to avoid painting racks or tracks above. However, because they are uncoated, they will rust in corrosive environments.
    Black-Oxide Steel—Black-oxide steel hooks have a dark surface color.
    Zinc-Plated Steel—Hooks are mildly corrosion resistant.
    Galvanized Steel—Galvanized steel hooks have a thick coating for good corrosion resistance.
    18-8 Stainless Steel—18-8 stainless steel hooks resist corrosion better than galvanized steel hooks.
