Multipurpose 4140 Alloy Steel Sheets

This versatile alloy steel is used for many parts, such as molds and structural supports. Also called chrome-moly steel, it resists fracturing from repeated stress. These ground sheets have undergone a process called decarburization, which removes residue created during manufacturing. As a result, they have a uniform surface that’s good for machining, heat treating for hardening and wear resistance, and finishing. The thickness is oversized for finishing to your exact requirements.
Note: Sheets may be made from either 4140 or 4142 alloy steel. They are interchangeable in most applications.

Made with chromium and vanadium, 6150 alloy steel holds up to wear, shock, and repeated stress better than 5160 steel. This steel maintains its shape and becomes very hard when heat treated, so it’s good for applications involving vibration, impact, and abrasion. Its rods are often used to make disc springs, gears, and shafts.

Combine a splined section that handles high torque and a round section for mounting gears, sprockets, and bearings. The parallel splines have large, straight-sided teeth that resemble machine keys and transmit more torque than involute-spline teeth.
Carbon Steel—Strong and easy to machine. These shafts work best in dry environments since moisture will cause steel to rust.
Sleeve Bushings—Transmit rotary motion or position loads along a shaft. These bushings also work as couplers—they can join two splined shafts when welded into place.
