Easy-to-Weld 4130 Alloy Steel Rods

- Yield Strength: Not Rated
- Hardness: Rockwell C21 (Hard)
- Fabrication: See table
- Specifications Met: See table
Made from 4130 alloy steel, also known as chrome-moly steel, these rods have low carbon content for good weldability. They’re often used to make gears and bushings. The surface of these rods is hardened to make them more resistant to wear and impacts. They’re also normalized, which is a heating process that relieves internal stress and helps prevent cracking during machining or additional hardening. These rods have been manufactured to ASTM and SAE standards for quality and performance.

High-Strength Ultra-Fatigue-Resistant 300M Alloy Steel

- Yield Strength: 100,000 psi
- Hardness: Rockwell C25 (Hard)
- Heat Treatable: Yes
- Max. Hardness After Heat Treatment: Rockwell C54
- Fabrication: Hot Rolled
- Specifications Met: ASTM A579
A modified version of 4340 alloy steel, this 300M alloy steel combines high yield strength with extreme resistance to cracking. It’s often used to create parts that require both, such as torsion bars and drive shafts. This alloy steel has been heat treated to relieve internal stresses, making it easier to machine. Additional heat treatment can be applied to harden the surface and make it more wear resistant. This alloy steel meets strict ASTM A579 standards for manufacturing and performance.

Extreme-Strength Fatigue-Resistant 9310 Alloy Steel

- Yield Strength: 162,000 psi
- Hardness: Rockwell B95 (Medium)
- Heat Treatable: Yes
- Max. Hardness After Heat Treatment: Not Rated
- Specifications Met: SAE AMS6265
A vacuum arc remelting (VAR) casting process gives 9310 superior strength, hardness, and fatigue resistance over other types of alloy steel. These rods are often machined into heavy duty gears, clutch parts, and ratchets.

Ultra-Strength Fatigue-Resistant 4330 Alloy Steel

- Yield Strength: 185,000 psi
- Hardness: Rockwell C23 (Hard)
- Heat Treatable: Yes
- Max. Hardness After Heat Treatment: Rockwell C46
- Fabrication: Hot Rolled
- Specifications Met: SAE AMS2301, SAE AMS6411
Made of a chromium-nickel-molybdenum alloy and strengthened with vanadium, this steel is the strongest alloy we offer. A vacuum arc remelting (VAR) process gives 4330 alloy steel excellent strength, hardness, and fatigue resistance. It also resists cracking from impact or compression. In addition to the VAR, this steel's been normalized—a form of heat treatment that helps yield consistent results if you want to machine or heat treat it further. More heat treatment will make the surface harder and more wear resistant. These rods and discs are often used for gears, axles, and shafts. They have been manufactured to meet AMS standards for quality and performance.
