Low-Carbon Steel Round Tubes

Also known as mild steel, low-carbon steel is easy to machine, form, and weld. It's widely fabricated into parts that don’t require high strength, such as frames, supports, and conduit. This steel is manufactured to ASTM, SAE, or EN standards for quality and performance.
Seamless tubes are stronger than welded tubes.
DOM (drawn over mandrel) welded tubes are stronger than ERW (electric resistance welded) tubes.
Heat treatable tubes can be surface hardened. Tubes that are stress relieved minimize warping during machining.

Made with more carbon and manganese than other easy-to-machine carbon steels, 1144 carbon steel has a higher yield strength and hardness. Also known as Stressproof, these rods are stress-relieved to minimize warping during machining. Use them to fabricate parts that require stress resistance, such as gears, shafts, and bushings. For added wear resistance, these rods can be surface hardened with heat treating. All meet ASTM A108 and ASTM A311 standards for quality and performance.

These rods are precision ground and held to a strict straightness tolerance, so they're all set for turning applications in your lathe. Often called Stressproof, they are stress-relieved to minimize warping during machining. Containing more carbon and manganese than other easy-to-machine carbon steels, 1144 offers higher yield strength and hardness, even without further heat treatment. Use it to fabricate parts that require stress resistance.

Hollow Linear Motion Shafts with Material Certification


Keep a material certificate on hand for compliance and quality assurance needs. Certificates include a traceable lot number and material test report. These hollow shafts reduce system weight and allow you to run various media such as electrical wiring, compressed air tubing, coolants, or lubricants through the center. Use them with linear bearings to reduce friction in manual and automated systems, such as those found in packing, machine tool, and material handling operations. They're smooth, hard, and wear resistant. Both the interior and exterior are ground and polished to tight diameter and straightness tolerances.
These shafts are heat treated to relieve internal stresses, which can cause them to warp out of tolerance. All have chamfered ends to remove sharp edges and reduce damage to bearings, housings, and other components during installation.
Surface smoothness—The lower the microinch value, the smoother the finish and the less friction and wear it will cause on the bearing.
