Since these switches don’t have a housing above the probe, they are often used in tight spaces and low-clearance areas. The threaded probe installs directly into tanks, pipelines, and other process components to turn heating equipment on or off at a specified temperature. Use the adjustment screw to set the actuation point. All switches are SPST (single pole, single throw) and control one circuit.

    Surface-Mount Temperature Switches

Image of Product. Front orientation. Temperature Switches. Surface-Mount Temperature Switches.
Often used to control heat cable output, these switches maintain your surface’s temperature by turning equipment on or off when they reach a set temperature. They actuate when the temperature rises to the setpoint and reset when the temperature falls below the reset point. Since they're SPDT (single pole, double throw) switches, they control one circuit and can either be wired to turn one device from on to off (normally closed) or from off to on (normally open). Wire them normally closed to power a heater—when the temperature rises to the setpoint, the heater will turn off until the temperature falls below the reset point. Or wire them normally open to turn on alarms or other devices when the temperature rises above the setpoint. Their setpoint isn’t adjustable, so they’re easy to set up and there’s no risk of unintentional changes.

    Snap-Acting Thermostats

Image of Product. Front orientation. Thermostats. Snap-Acting Thermostats.
Also known as snap discs, these thermostats switch on cooling systems or switch off heating systems when equipment gets too hot. Each thermostat has five temperature options for switch activation; choose the one that best suits your application.
Unlike heat-actuated switches, these thermostats reset automatically, saving you the effort of replacing a melted fusible link. To calculate their reset temperature, subtract their differential temperature from the temperature you set them at. For example, a thermostat set at 100° F with a 20° F differential will reset at 80° F.
Close Switch at Temperature Setting—Normally closed thermostats are also known as high-limit thermostats—they turn off at a set temperature. They’re often used with electric water heaters, stoves, and furnaces.
Open Switch at Temperature Setting—Normally open thermostats are also known as low-limit thermostats—they turn on at a set temperature. They’re good for use with fans and blowers.

    Enclosure Thermostats for Multiple Devices

Keep electronics in your enclosure from getting too hot or cold with these thermostats that control two devices at once. Clip them to a DIN rail to install.
For Heating and Cooling Thermostats with One Actuation Point
Image of Product. Adjustable Thermostat with One Actuation Point. Front orientation. Thermostats. Enclosure Thermostats for Multiple Devices, 1 Actuation Point, Adjustable Actuation Point.

    Adjustable Thermostat

    with One Actuation Point

Heating and cooling thermostats control heaters and fans or air conditioners.
Thermostats with one actuation point, also known as changeover thermostats, switch between heating and cooling so one device is always running. When the temperature in your enclosure gets hotter than the temperature you set, the thermostat will turn on your fan or air conditioner. It goes back to heating once the temperature is reduced by the temperature difference. So for a thermostat with a temperature difference of 9° F, setting it at 60° F means it will heat the enclosure until it reaches 60° F, switch to cooling until it reaches 51° F, and then switch back to heating.
Adjustable Actuation Point—Adjustable thermostats allow you to set custom temperatures.
IP20 Enclosure Rating—All thermostats meet IP20, which means they’re designed so fingers can’t fit inside and get shocked.
UL 94 V-0—They also meet UL 94 V-0, so they self-extinguish within 10 seconds if they catch fire and won’t spread the fire by dripping.
Certification—Thermostats that are CE marked or VDE certified meet European safety standards. UL Recognized Component and C-UL Recognized Component thermostats also meet American and Canadian safety standards.

    Adjustable Thermostat

    with Two Actuation Points

Cooling thermostats regulate two cooling devices, such as a fan and an air conditioner, for two-stage cooling. Use only one device for cooling in mild temperatures or both for extreme heat. These thermostats switch your equipment on when the enclosure is hotter than the temperature setting. Once the temperature is reduced by the temperature difference, it will switch off. For example, a thermostat set at 77° F for a fan and 140° F for an air conditioner will power both devices when the enclosure is over 140° F. With a temperature difference of 18° F, the air conditioner will switch off when the temperature goes below 122° F. The fan will run until the temperature reaches 59° F, and switch back on if it heats up to 77° F or hotter.
Heating and cooling thermostats control heaters and fans or air conditioners.
Heating and cooling thermostats with two actuation points control two devices independently. When your enclosure temperature is within the set range, neither device is powered, so they’re more efficient than changeover thermostats. For each device, temperature setting is the high end of the temperature range, and temperature difference is the size of the range. For a thermostat with temperature settings of 59° and 95° F and an 18° F temperature difference, the heater will switch on when your enclosure is colder than 41° F and turn off when it reaches 59° F. The fan or other cooling device will switch on when the temperature goes above 95° F and turn off once the enclosure cools to 77° F.
Adjustable Actuation Point—Adjustable thermostats allow you to set custom temperatures.
IP20 Enclosure Rating—All thermostats meet IP20, which means they’re designed so fingers can’t fit inside and get shocked.

    Washdown Autotuning Temperature Controllers

The faceplate on these controllers is sealed to meet NEMA 4X and IP66 for protection in washdown environments with splashing water, corrosive liquid, and dust. The rear case meets IP20, which prevents objects about the size of a finger from coming into contact with a live circuit.
Because they have proportional-integral-derivative (PID) software, these controllers are ideal for turning heating equipment on and off in systems with rapid, unpredictable, and complex temperature changes. They help you achieve precise and stable temperature control with fuzzy logic that learns system behavior and automatically compensates for changes. Use the autotuning function to cycle and identify the ideal PID variables for your system to achieve the most precise control. These controllers read temperature with a highly sensitive thermocouple probe (sold separately) in critical process applications. All fit into instrument panels with DIN cutouts. Use the keypad to adjust the actuation point, reset point, and other settings.

    Adjustable Thermostat

    (12.6° F Temperature

    Difference)

Control a single heating or cooling device in your enclosure to keep electronics at a safe operating temperature. Clip them on to a DIN rail and connect them to your heater, fan, or air conditioner. All these thermostats meet American, Canadian, or European safety standards.
Cooling—Cooling thermostats are normally open, so they’ll switch your fan or air conditioner on when the air in your enclosure reaches the temperature setting.
Heating—Heating thermostats are normally closed—when the air in your enclosure reaches the temperature setting, the thermostat will turn the heater off.
Adjustable Actuation Point—Adjustable thermostats let you set the temperature you need.
IP20 Enclosure Rating—They have an IP20 rating—to prevent shocks, fingers won’t fit inside.
UL 94 V-0—They also meet UL 94 V-0, so they self-extinguish within 10 seconds if they catch fire and won’t spread the fire by dripping.
Temperature Setting—These thermostats keep the air in your enclosure within a set range. Temperature setting is the high end of the range for both heating and cooling thermostats.
Temperature Difference—Temperature difference is the difference between the temperature when the thermostat turns your device on and when it turns off. For a heater thermostat with a temperature setting of 50° and an 18° temperature difference, the thermostat will switch your heater on when the temperature goes below 32° and off once the temperature reaches 50°. Thermostats with a lower temperature difference maintain a narrower range of temperatures, but they use more power because they switch on and off more frequently.

    On/Off Temperature Controllers

The simplest temperature controllers—they turn devices fully on or off, with no middle state, at a given temperature. They’re best as alarms and for systems where temperature changes slowly, but they shouldn’t be used when precise temperature control is necessary. All automatically reset as the temperature fluctuates. To read the temperature, they use a highly sensitive thermocouple probe (not included). And their mechanical relay actuates circuits directly. Controllers are SPDT (single pole, double throw) and can turn one circuit from off to on (normally open) or on to off (normally closed). Mount them into cutouts in instrument panels.
All meet American, Canadian, and European safety standards.

    Accessories for Temperature Controllers

    Washdown On/Off Temperature Controllers

Rated IP65 and NEMA 4X to seal out water and dust, these temperature controllers turn your equipment on and off in areas with frequent washdowns. They're the simplest type of temperature controller, so they switch your heater or other device fully on or off without a middle state when they reach a given temperature. These controllers work great as alarms and in systems that can't handle rapid switching or have slow temperature changes. However, you shouldn't use them in processes that require precise control over temperatures.
To read temperature, these controllers use a highly sensitive thermocouple or RTD probe (not included). Their mechanical relay actuates circuits directly. All are SPDT (single pole, double throw) and can turn one circuit from off to on (normally open) or on to off (normally closed). Since these controllers reset automatically, they turn off and on again as the temperature fluctuates. Use the keypad to set the actuation point, reset point, and other settings. Mount them into instrument panel cutouts.
These controllers have UL recognized components and are CSA certified and CE marked, so they meet American, Canadian, and European safety standards.
