When heat is applied, the insulation on these terminals shrinks and creates a seal that keeps out water and contaminants. The insulation covers the barrel to prevent short circuiting with nearby wire. Loosen your mounting screw to install—the open end eliminates the need to completely remove it. Use a crimper (not included) to install wire.
Flanged terminals have turned-up tips to keep the terminal secure, even if the screw loosens, so they’re a good choice for vertical applications.
Locking terminals have spring-action forks that lock around the screw holding the terminal in place before tightening.
