The squared shoulders fit more tightly in terminal block gaps than standard ring terminals, so the wire is less likely to turn or jostle.

Ring terminals encircle the whole screw shank, so they stay put better than spade and hook terminals when vibrated or pulled. They take a bit longer to install, however, because you have to completely remove the screw. Attach your wire with a crimping tool to avoid a damaged barrel and loose connection.
