About Gradual On/Off Valves

Threaded Gradual On/Off Valves
Also known as gate valves, these valves gradually open and close to prevent system damage from suddenly starting and stopping flow.
Valves with a wheel handle open and close with multiple turns, providing more controlled, shock-resistant flow than valves with a pull handle.
Valves with a rising stem lift the handle as they open and lower it as they close. At a glance, you can see if flow is on or off. The stem is isolated from what’s flowing through your line, giving these valves a longer lifespan than valves with a nonrising stem. Valves with a nonrising stem keep the stem in the same position whether they’re open or closed. They’re often used underground and in low-clearance locations.
Valves with threaded union stem allow you to maintain and repair these valves while they’re still inline—you can disassemble the stem so there's no need to unthread the pipe connections. Bronze valves resist corrosion better than brass valves. They’re also stronger.
Flow coefficient (Cv) is the amount of water (in gallons per minute) at 60° F that will flow through a fully open valve with a difference of 1 psi between the inlet and the outlet.

Easy-Maintenance Threaded Gradual On/Off Valves
Maintain and repair these valves while they’re still inline—you can disassemble the stem so there's no need to unthread the pipe connections. Also known as gate valves, they open and close gradually to prevent sudden starts and stops. Control the flow by turning the wheel handle multiple times. This gives you more control than a pull handle. Made of bronze, these valves have good corrosion resistance.
Valves with a nonrising stem keep the handle in the same position whether they’re open or closed. They're often used in low-clearance locations.
Valves with a rising stem lift the handle as they open and lower it as they close. At a glance, you can see if flow is on or off. The stem is isolated from what’s flowing through your line, giving these valves a longer lifespan than valves with a nonrising stem.

Threaded Gradual On/Off Valves for Cryogenic Liquid

- Valve Type: Gate
- For Use With: Liquid Argon, Liquid Carbon Dioxide, Liquid Natural Gas, Liquid Methane, Liquid Nitrogen, Liquid Oxygen
- Packing Material: PTFE Plastic
- Specifications Met: ASME B31.3, CGA G-4.1, MSS-SP-80
Built to handle the extreme cold of liquid gases, these bronze valves are ideal for liquid carbon dioxide carbonation systems, liquid nitrogen coolant systems, and other cryogenic applications. They’ll also work with liquified natural gas and liquid oxygen. They’re cleaned and bagged to meet CGA G-4.1 for oxygen service. Also known as gate valves, they open and close gradually with multiple turns of the wheel handle to prevent sudden starts and stops.
The handle raises as these valves open and lowers as they close. At a glance, you can see if flow is on or off. The stem is isolated from what’s flowing through your line, giving these valves a longer lifespan than valves with a nonrising stem. They have a threaded union stem housing, so you can separate the stem from the housing while the valve is inline. That means you can complete maintenance tasks, such as packing the stem, without taking apart your whole setup.

Plastic Socket-Connect Gradual On/Off Valves for Drinking Water

- Valve Type: Gate
- For Use With: Drinking Water
- Seal Material: See table
- Specifications Met: NSF/ANSI 61
Bond these valves to plastic pipe with PVC primer and cement (not included) to create a permanent, leak-tight connection in drinking water lines. Also known as gate valves, they open and close gradually to prevent damage to your system from sudden changes in flow. Turn the handle multiple times to start or stop flow. Safe for use in drinking water systems, these valves meet NSF/ANSI 61. They’re plastic, so they’re lighter in weight than metal valves.
All have a nonrising stem, which means that the handle won’t move up as the valve opens. This makes them good for underground and other low-clearance applications.
CPVC valves handle temperatures up to 200° F, so you can use them in hot drinking water applications.
Use repair kits to replace worn seals.
Flow coefficient (Cv) is the amount of water (in gallons per minute) at 60° F that will flow through a fully open valve with a difference of 1 psi between the inlet and the outlet.

Plastic Threaded Gradual On/Off Valves for Drinking Water

- Valve Type: Gate
- For Use With: Drinking Water
- Seal Material: See table
- Specifications Met: NSF/ANSI 61
A lightweight alternative to metal valves, these plastic valves have NPT connections for use with threaded pipe. All meet NSF/ANSI 61 for use in drinking water systems. Also known as gate valves, they gradually open and close with multiple turns of the wheel handle to prevent system damage from suddenly starting and stopping flow. Since the handle sits on a nonrising stem, it stays at the same height whether these valves are open or closed. This helps them fit in underground lines and other low-clearance spots. When seals wear out, replace them using repair kits (sold separately).
PVC valves are made of the standard material used in most drinking water systems. CPVC valves resist heat up to 200° F, making them a better choice for hot water than PVC valves.
Flow coefficient (Cv) is the amount of water (in gallons per minute) at 60° F that will flow through a fully open valve with a difference of 1 psi between the inlet and the outlet.

Plastic Flanged Gradual On/Off Valves for Drinking Water

- Valve Type: Gate
- For Use With: Drinking Water
- Seal Material: Buna-N Rubber
- Specifications Met: NSF/ANSI 61
Easier to install and remove for maintenance than threaded and weld-on valves, these valves bolt and unbolt to flanges. They meet NSF/ANSI 61 for safe use in drinking water systems. Also known as gate valves, they open and close gradually with multiple turns of the wheel handle to prevent damage from sudden starts and stops in flow. Whether these valves are open or closed, the handle stays at the same height because of the nonrising stem. This helps them fit in low-clearance areas, such as underground lines. All are plastic, making them a lightweight alternative to metal valves. When the seals wear out, replace them using repair kits (sold separately).
Flow coefficient (Cv) is the amount of water (in gallons per minute) at 60° F that will flow through a fully open valve with a difference of 1 psi between the inlet and the outlet.
