About Sound Levels

Measured in decibels (dB), volume ratings indicate how much noise equipment makes. Some common volume levels include a whisper @ 20 dB, a refrigerator @ 40 dB, a conversation @ 60 dB, and a light machine shop @ 90 dB. OSHA recommends hearing protection for exposure to 80 dB and greater.

About Air Conditioner Cooling Capacity

High-Output Equipment-Cooling Fans

These fans produce greater airflow than standard equipment-cooling fans. Also known as muffin fans and electrically commutated (EC) fans, they keep heat-sensitive equipment such as electronic components cool. Ball bearings keep them running smoothly and quietly, reducing friction to increase their lifespan. All have UL recognized components and some are CSA certified.

Wet-Location Equipment-Cooling Fans

Able to withstand dust and water splashes, these fans are IP rated. Also known as muffin fans, they keep heat-sensitive equipment such as electronic components cool. All have ball bearings to lower the heat that is generated from the fans for a longer service life. They also have UL recognized components.

IP55-rated fans can also stand up to washdowns from low-pressure jets of water.

Install fans with wire leads directly to your power source—there’s no need for additional connectors.

Use fans with quick-disconnect terminals to quickly connect and disconnect wiring from the terminal. Optional quick-disconnect power cords allow you to add a NEMA plug to these fans, so you can connect them to a standard outlet.

Keep electronics from overheating in places that must be sanitized often. These DC-powered fans are rated IP69K, meaning you won’t damage them with harsh jets of water and they block out dust. Cool heat-sensitive electronics without having to hardwire your fan—these kits include the fan, guard, and power cord. They’re IP-rated to withstand dust, light rinses, and other wet environments. Washdown Wall-Mount Fans

Made of corrosion-resistant material, these fans meet UL 507 spray test requirements for washdowns. All have a direct-drive motor, which has fewer moving parts than belt-drive motors for less maintenance. They also have a totally enclosed motor enclosure, which can be used in dirty, dusty, and damp environments. The motor is Bakery Industry Sanitation Standards Committee (BISSC) verified for food-service use.

Belt-Drive Hazardous Location Duct Fans

These fans have an explosion-proof motor that is rated for hazardous environments. All are belt-drive fans that are quieter and have a longer life span than direct-drive fans because components can be replaced if worn or damaged. They install inline in ductwork for use as an exhaust, supply, or booster fan. Fans rated IP56 have a motor enclosure that’s rated for protection in damp, dusty, and washdown environments. UL and CSA standards apply to the motor.

Note: Airflow depends on the resistance created by ductwork. This resistance, known as static pressure (SP), is measured in inches of water.

Enclosure-Cooling Heat Exchangers

Cool the air in your enclosure to protect electronic components from excessive heat. These heat exchangers absorb heat in the enclosure, then use cooler air outside the enclosure to draw the heat away, lowering the temperature inside. Unlike a fan, they seal out outside air, so dust, moisture, and other contaminants can't get in. Because they use ambient air to cool the enclosure, heat exchangers use less energy and are less likely to cause condensation than air conditioners.

NEMA 4- and IP56-rated heat exchangers are designed to withstand rain, snow, and washdowns. They’re made of powder-coated steel.

Heat exchangers rated NEMA 4X and IP56 are made of stainless steel to resist corrosion in the harshest environments. They stand up to weather, washdowns, and corrosive chemicals.

All of these heat exchangers meet American and Canadian safety standards. CE marked heat exchangers also meet European safety standards.

Drain Kit

Also known as Peltier coolers, these coolers use electrical current to transfer heat away from your enclosure while sealing out contaminants. They cool the enclosure to below the ambient temperature. The solid-state thermoelectric components require no maintenance and take up less space than an air conditioner or heat exchanger.

Rated IP66 and NEMA 4X, these coolers withstand weather, washdowns, and corrosive environments. They meet American and European safety standards.

Coolers without a thermostat run continuously when powered. Add a thermostat, timer, or switch to turn them on and off.

An optional extension bracket holds the cooler away from the enclosure wall for more space inside the enclosure.

Add a drain kit to remove moisture when condensation is likely, such as in humid environments and enclosures exposed to rapid temperature changes. The included hose directs water away from electrical components.
