Steel Hex Head Screws for Wood
![](/prerenderstable/mvPRE/contents/gfx/imagecache/914/91478a544polished-steelpositive_front_negative_right_flop15_1609368090_354@halfx_637449433495744869.png?ver=imagenotfound)
These steel screws have corrosion-resistant finishes. Also known as lag bolts, they have a hex head for a secure grip with a wrench. They press threads into material for a tight, secure hold. To prevent splitting, drill a pilot hole slightly smaller than the screw. Length is measured from under the head.
Black-oxide steel screws have a coating that protects the steel from rusting in dry environments and blends in with dark surfaces.
Zinc-plated steel screws resist corrosion in wet environments.
Hot-dipped galvanized steel screws have a thick coating for better corrosion resistance than zinc-plated steel screws. They're a good choice for ACQ-treated (arsenic-free) lumber.

18-8 stainless steel screws have good chemical resistance and are a good choice for ACQ-treated (arsenic-free) lumber. Also known as lag bolts, they have a hex head for a secure grip with a wrench. They press threads into material for a tight, secure hold. To prevent splitting, drill a pilot hole slightly smaller than the screw. They may be mildly magnetic. Length is measured from under the head.

Super-Corrosion-Resistant 316 Stainless Steel Hex Head Screws for Wood
![](/prerenderstable/mvPRE/contents/gfx/imagecache/901/90123a116p1-b01-digital@halfx_636982558300691666.png?ver=imagenotfound)
More corrosion resistant than 18-8 stainless steel screws, these have excellent resistance to chemicals and salt water and are a good choice for ACQ-treated (arsenic-free) lumber. Also known as lag bolts, they have a hex head for a secure grip with a wrench. They press threads into material for a tight, secure hold. To prevent splitting, drill a pilot hole slightly smaller than the screw. They may be mildly magnetic. Length is measured from under the head.

Stainless Steel Flanged Hex Head Screws for Wood
![](/prerenderstable/mvPRE/contents/gfx/imagecache/914/91428a111polished-steelnegative_front_negative_right_flop15_1617820554_821@halfx_637533994422005639.png?ver=imagenotfound)
These 316 stainless steel screws have excellent resistance to chemicals and salt water and are a good choice for ACQ-treated (arsenic-free) lumber. The flange reduces the risk of crushing material and the hex head provides a secure grip with a wrench. They press threads into material for a tight, secure hold. To prevent splitting, drill a pilot hole slightly smaller than the screw. Screws may be mildly magnetic. Head height includes the flange. Length is measured from under the head.

18-8 stainless steel studs have good chemical resistance and may be mildly magnetic. Also known as hanger bolts, use them to hang, mount, and fasten parts to wood structures. Install with a stud driver or create wrench flats by threading two nuts onto the stud and jamming them together.

Hot-Melt Glue Sticks
![](/prerenderstable/mvPRE/contents/gfx/imagecache/751/7518a724p2-@halfx_637170246871331680.png?ver=imagenotfound)
When heated, these glue sticks melt and quickly begin to harden. Use them to seal packaging and form other low- to medium-strength bonds. 3M glue sticks work only with 3M glue guns
Adhesives that take longer to harden are suited for applications that require some repositioning, because the longer open times allow for more adjustment. For high-volume applications, adhesives with a lower viscosity flow faster than other hot-melt adhesives.
3750LM, 3762LM, and 3792LM are low-temperature formulations, which work well on delicate or heat-sensitive materials.
3762 and 3762LM are high-tack adhesives; they bond quickly with light pressure.
