About Brightness and Light Appearance

Find the right lumen level to brighten your space. Then, compare the way warm, neutral, and cool lighting affect the appearance of everyday objects.

Tape Lights

Bend these flexible lights around corners or squeeze them into spaces where bulky fixtures won’t fit. They’re brighter than plug-in tape lights, so you can use them for inspections and other detailed work. They’re also a great choice to extend the life of your fluorescent or incandescent fixtures with energy-efficient LEDs. They have a higher CRI (color rendering index) than most other lights, so they illuminate subtle color differences. Each LED is inspected to make sure there are no visible differences in temperature and brightness, so you can combine multiple strips within the same space. Install them on any smooth surface—just peel and stick.

You’ll need a driver to power these lights. Customize your setup: join multiple lights together, use connectors to bridge gaps between stairs or shelves, or add channels to diffuse light within your space (all sold separately).

Note: To shorten a light, cut it at the marked intervals only. Cutting outside these marks can damage the circuit and create dead zones.

Tape Lights

Lights rated IP20 are for indoor use only. White tape lights come in several different light appearances to suit your environment or match existing lighting. Lights with a warm appearance have a soft, yellow tone that is similar to an incandescent bulb. Lights with a neutral appearance balance blue and yellow tones for a bright, natural look. They’re often used in offices. Lights with a cool appearance have white and blue tones that reduce eyestrain during detail-oriented tasks, such as inspecting. Dim-to-warm lights get warmer as they dim to mimic incandescent lights.

Any-color lights connect to an app on your phone, so you can set them to any color or to any temperature of white light. They’re also known as RGB+WW lights.

Retrofit Kits for Ceiling and Wall Lights

Upgrade your old fixtures to energy-efficient LED lights. These kits replace the need to maintain hard-to-find-bulbs and ballasts, or replace the entire fixture. They fit inside fluorescent or incandescent fixtures and wire directly to power, so they’re quick to install. Choose a kit that matches your fixture’s shape and size. They come with everything you need to plug in and go. They either include driver circuitry on the circuit board or come with a driver. To install, remove all the old bulbs and the fixture’s wiring.

Select a light appearance to match your existing lighting. If you’re not sure what light appearance your existing fixtures have, choose a light with a selectable light appearance. Use the switch to adjust its appearance and brightness.

Round and rectangle kits fit into small ceiling and wall fixtures. They come with a plastic cover to keep you from touching the live circuit board. To install, just push your power wires into the connectors on the board.

Strip kits include a driver and LED strips. Use them to retrofit recessed ceiling lights, washdown ceiling lights, and linear bay lights.

Magnetic kits snap onto steel and other magnetic housings—no drilling or fasteners required.

Retrofit Ceiling Strip Lights

Fit traditional fluorescent ceiling strip lights with LED lights, which use less electricity. DLC (DesignLight Consortium) listed, these lights have been tested to confirm their energy efficiency. They mount to standard 4 1/4" to 5 1/4"-wide housings with the included screws and safety cables. Hardwire them into your system—they automatically adjust to match the incoming power. Remove the old bulbs and their wiring before installing these lights.

The lens resists scratching and won’t yellow over time, since it’s made of acrylic. It’s also frosted to disperse light and reduce glare.

Lights with a neutral light appearance look less clinical than those with a cool light appearance. They’re common in offices, showrooms, retail stores, and other workspaces.

Lights with a cool light appearance highlight white and blue tones. They’re also brighter than those with a neutral light appearance. Use them in environments that require high visibility, such as warehouses, workshops, and inspection areas.
