High-Speed Steel Round-Shank Reamers
The shank diameter is slightly smaller than the reamer diameter.
Straight-flute reamers are for general purpose cutting.
Spiral-flute reamers create a smoother finish than straight flutes and work well in keyways and other applications with an interrupted cut. Reamers with a right-hand spiral pull chips upward as they cut, so they’re often used in blind holes.

Round-Shank Reamers for Hole Alignment with Safety Collar
A collar on the shank prevents you from reaming past the cutting edge. These reamers are for use with hand-held electric and air tools. Also known as bridge reamers, car reamers, and aligning reamers, they ream, true, enlarge, align, and debur holes. All have tapered ends for easy entry into misaligned holes. Hex Nut-Shank Reamers for Hole Alignment with Safety Magnets
Magnets on the hex nut hold the reamer in place in your tool and prevent it from accidentally falling when not in the square-drive impact wrench socket. Also known as bridge reamers, car reamers, and aligning reamers, they ream, true, enlarge, align, and debur holes. All have tapered ends for easy entry into misaligned holes. Do not use for reaming tapered holes.
Reamers with spiral flutes are a good choice for materials that are difficult to ream, such as high-carbon steel and cast iron.
