Metric-to-Metric Male-Female Hex Thread Adapters

In addition to joining male- and female-threaded parts, these adapters can increase or decrease metric thread sizes and change the thread pitch. You can also use the smaller adapters as threaded standoffs, positioning and separating circuit boards and other components in assemblies.
Adapters that meet ASTM specifications are made from or plated with materials that adhere to specific standards for chemical and physical properties, such as hardness.
Choose black-oxide steel adapters to match the aesthetics of your system or for their mild corrosion resistance. The finish won't chip or rub off. They resist rust in indoor and dry environments, but avoid using them in corrosive environments.
Zinc-plated steel adapters are a good option in dry environments. The zinc plating prevents the steel from corroding until the plating wears away.
18-8 stainless steel adapters resist corrosion caused by water. They're good for wet and damp environments but will corrode when exposed to salt water and other chloride solutions.
At about a third of the weight of steel adapters, aluminum adapters are the lightest we offer. They resist corrosion in wet environments.

Inch-to-Metric Male-Female Hex Thread Adapters

Change inch threads to metric with these adapters, or swap metric threads for inch. An external hex lets you tighten or loosen them with a wrench. You can also use them to increase or reduce your thread size, or to create space between parts in an assembly.
Adapters that meet ASTM specifications are made from or plated with materials that adhere to specific standards for chemical and physical properties, such as hardness.
Zinc-plated steel adapters should be used in mostly dry environments. The zinc plating offers temporary rust protection, but once it wears away the steel will rust.
At one third the weight of steel, aluminum adapters are the lightest option. They will not rust in damp or humid environments, but they will corrode if left in water.
18-8 stainless steel adapters can be used in wet environments, but chemicals or salt water will cause staining and rust spots.

Metric-to-Metric Female Hex Thread Adapters

Increase or decrease metric thread size from one male-threaded part to another. Commonly used to connect two differently sized threaded rods, these adapters have a hex-shaped body, so you can tighten them with a standard wrench. You can also use them to change thread pitch or convert a male-threaded connection to a female-threaded connection. Small adapters can work as threaded standoffs, positioning and separating circuit boards and other components in assemblies.
Adapters that meet ASTM specifications are made from or plated with materials that adhere to specific standards for chemical and physical properties, such as hardness.
Black-oxide steel adapters have a finish that won’t chip or rub off. They match the aesthetics of many systems. They resist rust in indoor and dry environments but will degrade in outdoor and highly corrosive environments.
Zinc-plated steel adapters are a good option in dry environments. The zinc plating prevents the steel from corroding until the plating wears away.
Aluminum adapters are about one third of the weight of steel adapters. They resist corrosion in wet environments.
18-8 stainless steel adapters resist corrosion in wet environments. However, they will corrode when exposed to salt water and other chloride solutions.

Inch-to-Metric Female Hex Thread Adapters

Adapt threaded rods from inch to metric. These adapters connect two male-threaded fasteners, so you can change the gender of a mating part or increase or decrease its thread size. The hex-shaped body fits into the head of a standard wrench. Small adapters can also be used as standoffs, positioning and separating circuit boards and other components in assemblies.

Stainless Steel Helical Inserts

Also known as Heli-Coil inserts, these inserts have coils that expand once installed to securely anchor the insert. All have a prong for ease of installation. An installation tool grips the prong and reduces the coil diameter, enabling the insert to fit in tapped holes. Remove the prong to insert the screw. Installation requires a drill bit, a helical insert tap, an installation tool, and a prong break-off tool.
Inserts that meet DIN 8140 adhere to international standards for dimensions.

Tapping Inserts for Soft Metal

Also known as Tap-Lok inserts, these inserts cut their own threads in soft metals such as aluminum, so there’s no need to tap the hole. Install them into a drilled hole with an installation tool and a ratchet wrench. Installation tools can also be placed in the chuck on a drill press and turned by hand.

Tapered Heat-Set Inserts for Plastic

The tapered shape makes it easier to guide these inserts into a hole during installation. Use a drill bit to create a straight hole, then taper the top half. Heat inserts with a soldering tip so that they melt the plastic when installed. As the plastic cools, it solidifies around the knurls and ridges on the insert for excellent resistance to both torque and pull-out.
Made with lead, brass inserts are stronger than aluminum and other brass alloys but not as strong as 303 stainless steel inserts. They have good corrosion resistance.
Aluminum inserts are 70% lighter than brass and stainless steel inserts, have good corrosion resistance, and are lead-free. Since they’re lead-free, they can be safely recycled.

Tapered Heat-Set Insert Assortments for Plastic with Installation Tools

Assortments include various sizes of tapered inserts, a soldering iron, a ceramic insulation tube, and installation tips. The tapered shape makes it easy to guide these inserts into a hole during installation. Use a drill bit to create a straight hole, then taper the top half. Heat inserts with the soldering iron so that they melt the plastic when installed. As the plastic cools, it solidifies around the knurls and ridges on the insert for excellent resistance to both torque and pull-out. Made from brass, they’re corrosion resistant, electrically conductive, and nonmagnetic.

Heat-Set Inserts for Plastic

Install these inserts into plastic parts to create a secure base for fasteners. Also known as Chevron and headed inserts, they are often used to strengthen mounting holes on brittle plastics, such as on 3D printed parts. Unlike plastic threads, which wear down with repeated use, these threads hold their shape over a long life. Press inserts into straight holes that have been drilled, printed, or molded into plastic parts, then heat them with a soldering tip to melt the surrounding plastic. As the plastic cools, it fuses to the sharp, diagonal ridges around the inserts, which withstand torque and prevent the inserts from being pulled out. The interior is fully threaded, so you can access the threads from both sides of a through-hole.
Flanged inserts have a wider end than standard inserts, which gives them a larger load-bearing surface and makes them harder to pull out. The flange also gives you a larger contact area for soldering. When threading into the flanged side, these inserts prevent over-tightening, which can cause brittle plastic to crack.
Made with lead, brass inserts are stronger than aluminum and other brass alloys but not as strong as stainless steel inserts. They have good corrosion resistance.
