    About Magnets
    industrial info icon

Choose a magnet with the right strength, material, and temperature resistance for your application.

    Neodymium Disc Magnets

Unmatched strength in a compact shape. These magnets have the highest strength-to-size ratio of any magnet, delivering powerful pull force even in tight spaces. Their flat, round shape creates a strong, even pull across surfaces for reliable holding power. However, they may lose magnetic strength at high temperatures. Also known as rare earth magnets.
Warning: Maximum pull ratings are based on direct contact with rust-free, unpainted iron surfaces. Variations in material condition will significantly reduce these ratings. Do not use for lifting over people.

N35SH and N38SH—These magnets are less likely than other grades to lose magnetic strength when exposed to temperatures up to 300°F.
Magnetized Through Thickness—Magnetized from one flat face to the other, these magnets deliver a concentrated magnetic force. They’re best for direct contact with flat surfaces.
Magnetized Through Diameter—Magnetized outward from the center, these magnets generate a circular magnetic field. This makes them best for sensors and motors where rotational symmetry and precise angles are key.
Nickel Plated—With a nickel-plated finish, these magnets stand up to solvents, salt water, and chemicals better than uncoated neodymium. The plating may wear off over time, so these are not recommended for applications with a lot of friction or wear.

    Ceramic Disc Magnets

Our most economical magnets cut costs, not reliability. They stay strong in temperatures up to 400° F and resist some corrosion. They’re also nonconductive to prevent short circuits in DC motors, transformers, and speakers. However, they are not as strong as rare earth magnets.
Warning: Maximum pull ratings are based on direct contact with rust-free, unpainted iron surfaces. Variations in material condition will significantly reduce these ratings. Do not use for lifting over people.

    Alnico Disc Magnets

Our most heat-resistant magnets won’t melt, deform, or lose magnetic strength in temperatures up to 1020° F. Use them in everything from magnetos and flow meters to fixturing tools. However, their magnetic hold isn't as strong as neodymium magnets.
Warning: Maximum pull ratings are based on direct contact with rust-free, unpainted iron surfaces. Variations in material condition will significantly reduce these ratings. Do not use for lifting over people.

    Machinable Neodymium Disc Magnets

Cut, drill, or shape to your exact needs. These magnets are bonded with epoxy, making them soft enough to machine with carbide tooling while preserving their magnetic strength.
Warning: Maximum pull ratings are based on direct contact with rust-free, unpainted iron surfaces. Variations in material condition will significantly reduce these ratings. Do not use for lifting over people.

Mount with pins, bolts, or rivets. There's no need for threading.
Magnetized Through Thickness—Magnetized from one flat face to the other, these magnets deliver a concentrated magnetic force. They’re best for direct contact with flat surfaces.

    Ferrite Cores

Often used as inductors and transformers in electrical circuits, these cores generate a magnetic hold when magnet wire (sold separately) is wrapped over them and energized. Remove the electric current and the cores lose their magnetism.

Stick these washers to iron and steel surfaces, so they won't shift during installation. They take the pressure off screws and nuts to protect your mounting surface.
