Extra High-Strength Beryllium-Free 180 Copper Rods

- Yield Strength: 90,000 psi
- Hardness: Rockwell B90 (Medium)
- Temper: Not Rated
- Heat Treatable: Yes
- Specifications Met: RWMA Class 3
Even though they have similar performance properties to beryllium copper, these copper rods don't require special machining techniques. They’re used for high-stress applications such as studs, welding electrodes, mold cavities, and electrical components because they hold their shape through collisions and frequent use. They conduct electricity, but not as well as 101 copper and other purer coppers. Their mechanical properties won’t change when used in extreme temperatures, but you can heat treat them if you want to alter their properties. Meeting RMWA Class 3, they’re often used to seam and spot weld electrically-resistant materials such as stainless steel. These rods won’t rust if used outdoors.

Super-Conductive Extra High-Strength 17510 Beryllium Copper Bars

- Yield Strength: 90,000psi
- Hardness: Rockwell B98 (Medium)
- Temper: TH04
- Heat Treatable: Yes
- Specifications Met: RWMA Class 3
In addition to being conductive, these 17510 beryllium copper bars are non-sparking and non-magnetic, so they’re used in mines and oil rigs, as well as for navigational tools. The beryllium and nickel in this alloy make it stronger and more rigid than pure copper, but not as conductive. These bars are conductive enough for electrical relays, probe pins, and test-socket and modular-jack contacts, while being strong enough for welding dies, plunger tips, and injection-mold nozzles. Even after collisions and frequent use, they maintain their shape, so they’re used for molds and cavities. Meeting RWMA Class 3, they’re recommended when seam and spot welding electrically-resistant material, such as stainless steel. They also withstand extreme temperatures and won’t rust outdoors.

Extra High-Strength Marine-Grade ToughMet™ Copper Nickel

- Yield Strength: 110,000 psi
- Hardness: Rockwell C30 (Hard)
- Temper: AT110 (Hard)
- Heat Treatable: No
- Specifications Met: ASTM B929, NACE MR0175/ISO15156
Often used to make bearings and couplings in tough transportation, oil- and gas-drilling, and marine industries, these rods resist fatigue and corrosion. Also known as ToughMet™ 3 rods, they’re up to four times stronger than other marine-grade copper nickel rods. They are similar in strength to beryllium copper and Monel K-500 nickel rods and are also less likely to deform than aluminum bronze rods when stress is applied. Even at low and high temperatures, they maintain 90% of their strength and fatigue resistance. All of these rods resist corrosion from salt water as well as algae and barnacle buildup—no need for special coatings. They also withstand hydrogen and chloride, so you can use them to create saltwater valve and pump parts.
These rods stand up to wear when in contact with other metal parts, such as stainless steel and nickel alloys. They allow electrical currents to pass through and cool down quickly. Similar to other copper alloys, you can spot weld, seam weld, and braze them. Unlike alloys with higher nickel content, such as Monel K-500 nickel rods, these rods can be machined at higher speeds with coolant and carbide tooling to reduce production time and wear on tools. All are nonmagnetic.
