Non-Hardening Thread Sealants with PTFE

PTFE provides a slippery surface that keeps threads from binding. These sealants never fully harden, remaining pliable enough to self-heal and stop leaks before they start, so they’re often used in high-vibration applications that could cause standard thread sealants to fail. Since they have low locking strength, these sealants can be adjusted without tools.
To adhere to safety standards for drinking water systems, use sealants that meet NSF/ANSI 61.

Thread Sealants with PTFE

PTFE provides a slippery surface that keeps threads from binding. These sealants are anaerobic, so they don’t begin to harden until coated surfaces are threaded together, blocking exposure to air.
Sealants with low locking strength prevent threads from loosening due to vibration and can be adjusted without tools.
To adhere to safety standards for drinking water systems, use sealants that meet NSF/ANSI 61.

Reusable Non-Hardening Thread Sealants for Coarse Threads

Much thicker than sealants for fine threads, these sealants bridge the gaps between coarse threads. Threads coated with these sealants can be installed multiple times without recoating. They have low locking strength, so they prevent threads from loosening due to vibration and can be adjusted without tools. They meet NSF/ANSI 61 for use with drinking water.
Reusable Non-Hardening Thread Sealants for Fine Threads

Formulated to flow into small spaces, use these sealants between fine threads. Threads coated with these sealants can be installed multiple times without recoating. They have low locking strength, so they prevent threads from loosening due to vibration and can be adjusted without tools. They meet NSF/ANSI 61 for use with drinking water.
Thread Sealants

These thread sealants are anaerobic, so they don’t begin to harden until coated surfaces are threaded together, blocking exposure to air.
Sealants with medium locking strength prevent threads from loosening due to vibration and shock. They require a hand tool to unthread.
To adhere to safety standards for drinking water systems, use sealants that meet NSF/ANSI 61.

High-Temperature Thread Sealants

These sealants have high locking strength, so they work in demanding applications, such as securing mounting studs in motor housings.
Room-temperature cure sealants must be mixed with water for use; they harden as the water evaporates. Mix about five parts powdered-sealant to one part water to form a thick consistency similar to peanut butter. Hardening can be accelerated with heat; do not heat to above 200° F. They require a hand tool to unthread.
1000° F max. temp. sealants expand as they harden.
1500° F max. temp. sealants are for use on cement-lined pipe joints prior to welding. The heat from the welding torch helps them begin to harden.

Thread Sealant Cord

Wind this multifilament cord into the grooves of tapered pipe threads to quickly create a seal. It can be applied to metal pipe up to size 4 NPT and plastic pipe up to size 1 1/2 NPT. The container includes a built-in cutter for fast application. After tightening, pipe can be loosened up to an eighth of a turn without leaking. Sealant meets NSF/ANSI 61 for use with drinking water in systems up to 180° F.

Threadlockers for Drinking Water

Primer (sold separately) cleans the surface and decreases the time to reach full strength. It is recommended when working with aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium; black-oxide finishes, and cadmium and zinc coatings.
Threadlockers begin to harden once coated surfaces are threaded together and exposure to air is blocked.
243 secures aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and plated fasteners without a primer.
