Split Lock Washers
As a screw is tightened, these washers flatten to add tension to the joint, counteracting fatigue around the joint from small amounts of vibration. This makes them a common choice to prevent fasteners from loosening. However, they resist the least amount of vibration compared to other locking washers.
These washers are compatible with fasteners that have right-hand threads to prevent clockwise rotation. The uneven split ends bite into fasteners for a tight grip, but they won’t work with hardened surfaces. These washers hold better than curved or wave washers. They are not reusable after tightening.
316 stainless steel washers have excellent resistance to chemicals and salt water. They may be mildly magnetic.
18-8 stainless steel washers have good chemical resistance and may be mildly magnetic.
Zinc- and zinc yellow-chromate plated steel washers are corrosion resistant in wet environments.
Bronze washers are corrosion resistant in wet environments, nonmagnetic, and electrically conductive.
Washers that meet ASME B18.21.1 adhere to strict dimensional standards. Steel washers also meet standards for material properties.

Oversized Split Lock Washers
Compared to standard split lock washers, these are thicker and have larger outside diameters. As the screw is tightened, these washers flatten to add tension to the joint. They counteract fatigue around the joint caused by small amounts of vibration, making them a popular choice for preventing fasteners from loosening. However, they resist the least amount of vibration compared to other locking washers.
These washers match with fasteners that have right-hand threads to prevent clockwise rotation. The uneven split ends bite into fasteners for a tight grip but won’t work with hardened surfaces. They hold better than curved or wave washers. They’re not reusable after tightening.
All washers adhere to strict ASME dimensional standards.

Shims for Keyway Broaches
When broaching in multiple passes, shims are necessary to ensure full keyway depth. Slide them between the broach and bushing to set the depth of the keyway.
Note: Broaches have a style designation of A, B, B1, C, D, or E. For proper fit, broaches, bushings, and shims used together must have the same letter designation.
