Slotted Shims
The slot lets you insert, remove, and adjust the shims without disassembling your machinery, while the tab keeps fingers and tools away from machine feet. Use an insertion tool (sold separately) for better leverage and reach. Shims are etched with the thickness.
18-8 stainless steel shims have a balance of strength and corrosion resistance.

Shim Stock
Cut it into custom shapes to fit your application.
For accurate leveling, choose materials such as steel or stainless steel, which are hard enough to resist scratching and deforming. Softer shims, like copper or aluminum, can be used as wear plates between components that rub together, preventing damage to equipment. Metal shims include a material certificate with traceable lot number.
Stainless steel shim stock is more corrosion resistant than steel shim stock.
Carbon steel shim stock has excellent strength and can be welded, but isn't as corrosion resistant as other shims.

Belleville Spring Lock Washers
Also known as conical washers, these have a slightly cupped shape that gives them spring-like flexibility to grip tighter than split and tooth lock washers. They minimize loosening from wear, temperature changes, and vibration. Load-rated Belleville disc springs are also available.
18-8 stainless steel and 17-7 PH stainless steel washers have good chemical resistance and may be mildly magnetic. 17-7 PH stainless steel washers are stronger than 18-8 stainless steel washers.

Metric Spring Lock Washers
The arched shape of these washers presses up against a bolt and down against a nut to prevent loosening from wear, vibration, or temperature changes. Similar to a spring, they flatten out as pressure is applied, helping to absorb shocks. They grip bolts more tightly than split and tooth lock washers. Unlike split lock washers, which can only be tightened in one direction, these washers have a continuous body that can rotate in either direction.
Conical and curved washers are functionally the same, and are often referenced using their DIN specifications. These DIN specifications refer to slight differences in OD and thickness. DIN 6796 is the standard for conical spring lock washers, which are also known as Belleville washers. DIN 137A is the standard for curved spring lock washers; although this is no longer an active standard, it’s still commonly referenced.
Steel washers are stronger and more wear resistant than zinc-plated steel and stainless steel. They are best for dry environments, since moisture will cause them to rust. Zinc-plated washers have an outer layer of zinc that protects the inner steel from rust and extends the life of the washer. Similar to zinc plating, washers with a black phosphate coating are protected from rust in wet environments. They have a black finish that blends in with dark surfaces.
Stainless steel washers are more corrosion resistant than steel, and almost as strong. 18-8 stainless steel washers will hold up in wet and humid environments, but will corrode if exposed to salt water or chemicals. 316 stainless steel washers are the most corrosion resistant, and will not corrode from water, salt, or chemicals.

Metric Tab Lock Washers
Bend the tab on these metric lock washers to prevent the fastener and washer from turning and loosening due to vibration. All meet DIN dimensional standards.
DIN 432 washers have a partial cone shape that gives them spring-like flexibility, so they distribute force and grip tighter than split and tooth lock washers. However, they do not resist vibration as well as DIN 93 washers. These washers prevent loosening from wear or changes in temperature when you bend the tab against the flats of a hex nut or bolt head. They do not need to be used near the edge of the mounting surface.
Steel washers resist wear better than 316 stainless steel but aren’t as corrosion resistant.
316 stainless steel washers are more corrosion resistant than steel, and nearly as strong. You can expose them to salt water, chlorine solutions, and chemicals without any rusting.
