About Paint and Protective Coatings

Electrical Insulating Varnish

Spray these abrasion- and wear-resistant coatings on motor winding wire, transformers, and other metal electrical parts to protect them from oils, chemicals, and moisture. They are solvent based, so they dry quickly. Choose a varnish with a dielectric strength that’s greater than the voltage of the electrical equipment it protects.
Clear varnish leaves a transparent film so components can be inspected. Red and green varnish stand out for identification when used to coat wire.

Strengthening Coatings for Wood

Seal rotting wood to prevent further damage while adding strength to the remaining wood fibers. These coatings penetrate deeply into crumbling wood to give it durability, strength, and moisture resistance. Treated wood can be sawed, drilled, nailed, sanded, and painted. Apply with a brush. The size listed is the combined total of the two parts.

Flame-Retardant Coatings for Wood

These coatings meet UL 723 and are rated Class A by ASTM E84—the highest rating available—for their ability to limit the spread of flames and generation of smoke. Use them on structural lumber, decking, and wood shingles. Apply with a brush, pad, roller, or sprayer. Reapply every five years on exterior wood; coatings protect interior wood indefinitely. Once fully cured, they can be painted over with water-based paint.
