Metric General Purpose Washers

Use these metric washers to evenly distribute the load under bolt or screw heads and nuts when fastening. They can also act as spacers.
Stainless steel washers are more corrosion resistant than steel washers, and almost as strong. 18-8 and 17-7 PH stainless steel washers will hold up in humid, damp, and washdown environments, but will corrode if exposed to salt water or chemicals. 17-7 PH stainless steel washers are stronger than 18-8 stainless steel. Black-oxide 18-8 stainless steel washers have a matte-black finish. More corrosion resistant than 18-8 and 17-7 PH stainless steel, 316 stainless steel washers will not corrode from salt water, chlorine solutions, and chemicals. Stronger and slightly more corrosion resistant than 316 stainless steel, Bumax 109 stainless steel washers are best for marine environments and chemical-processing plants.
Steel washers are stronger and more wear resistant than stainless steel washers. Steel washers without a plating or coating are best for dry environments, since moisture will cause them to rust. Zinc-plated steel washers have an outer layer of zinc that protects the inner steel from rust and extends the life of the washer. Although they are stronger and more wear resistant than stainless steel, they are not as corrosion resistant. Use them in wet environments, but avoid contact with salt water and chemicals. Zinc-flake-coated and black corrosion-resistant-coated steel washers have the same level of corrosion resistance—both resist corrosion from chemicals and withstand 1,000 hours of salt spray. The black corrosion-resistant-coated steel washers have a black semi-gloss finish.
At one-third the weight of steel, aluminum washers are the lightest option. They will not rust in wet environments.
In addition to resisting rust in wet environments, copper and brass washers are electrically conductive.
Washers that meet ISO 7089, 7090, 7091, and 7092 (formerly DIN 125, 126, and 433), meet international standards for fastener dimensions. The ISO 7091 washers have a slightly rougher surface than a typical flat washer.

Metric Oversized Washers

Compared to our general purpose washers, these have exaggerated diameters and/or thicknesses. Use them to cover oversized holes, hold heavy fastening loads, or as spacers and levelers.
Plain steel washers are stronger, more wear resistant, and less costly than zinc-plated steel and stainless steel washers. They should not be used in wet or corrosive environments because they easily rust. Black-oxide steel washers have a matte-black finish that prevents corrosion in dry environments. Zinc-plated steel washers have an outer layer of zinc that prevents the steel from rusting in wet areas. Compared to stainless steel, they're stronger, more wear resistant, and less costly, but not as corrosion resistant. Avoid exposing them to salt water and chemicals. Blue-dyed steel washers have a unique color so you can tell they're metric at a glance.
Stainless steel washers are more corrosion resistant than steel washers, and almost as strong. Use them in damp and washdown applications without worrying about rust. 18-8 stainless steel and 17-7 PH stainless steel washers have similar qualities to one another, except 17-7 PH stainless steel washers are stronger. 316 stainless steel washers stand up to salt water, chlorine solutions, and other chemicals without rusting. Washers that meet DIN and ISO specifications, meet international standards for washer dimensions. ISO 8738 is formerly DIN 1440. ISO 7093 is formerly DIN 9021.

Metric Split Lock Washers

As you tighten a bolt, these metric washers flatten to add tension to the threaded joint and prevent loosening from small amounts of vibration. They meet a DIN or ASME standard for split lock washer dimensions.
Standard split lock washers match with fasteners that have right-hand threads to prevent clockwise rotation. They have uneven split ends that bite into fasteners for a tight grip but won’t work with hardened surfaces. They hold better than curved or wave washers. These washers are not reusable after tightening.
Curved and wave split lock washers can be used with fasteners that have right- or left-hand threads to prevent clockwise and counterclockwise rotation. These washers are reusable—they retain their shape when untightened and will not damage fasteners. Wave washers touch fasteners at more points, so they grip tighter than curved washers. Their shape also compensates for uneven surfaces and tolerance variations.
Stainless steel washers resist corrosion better than steel and are nearly as strong. 18-8 stainless steel washers withstand humid, damp, and washdown environments but will corrode when exposed to salt water and other chlorine solutions. 316 stainless steel washers resist corrosion from wet environments as well as salt water, chlorine solutions, and chemicals. Stronger and more durable than stainless steel, zinc-plated and yellow zinc-plated steel washers withstand wet environments. However, they will corrode in salt water and chlorine solutions. The zinc plating temporarily protects against rust, but once it wears off, the steel will rust.
Steel washers are stronger and resist wear better than zinc-plated steel and stainless steel washers. Use them in dry environments. Blue-dyed steel washers are easy to spot. Black-oxide steel washers have a black residue that forms from being heat treated; the color will wear away over time.

Metric Spring Lock Washers

The arched shape of these washers presses up against a bolt and down against a nut to prevent loosening from wear, vibration, or temperature changes. Similar to a spring, they flatten out as pressure is applied, helping to absorb shocks. They grip bolts more tightly than split and tooth lock washers. Unlike split lock washers, which can only be tightened in one direction, these washers have a continuous body that can rotate in either direction.
Conical and curved washers are functionally the same, and are often referenced using their DIN specifications. These DIN specifications refer to slight differences in OD and thickness. DIN 6796 is the standard for conical spring lock washers, which are also known as Belleville washers.
Steel washers are stronger and more wear resistant than zinc-plated steel and stainless steel. They are best for dry environments, since moisture will cause them to rust. Zinc-plated washers have an outer layer of zinc that protects the inner steel from rust and extends the life of the washer. Similar to zinc plating, washers with a black phosphate coating are protected from rust in wet environments. They have a black finish that blends in with dark surfaces.

Wedge Lock Washers
These two-piece washers provide more locking power than split, tooth, and spring lock washers. Wedges on the inside lock the two pieces together, and serrations on the exterior grip surfaces to resist loosening from high vibration and shifting. Washers are reusable.
316 stainless steel washers have excellent resistance to chemicals and salt water. They may be mildly magnetic.
Zinc-flake-coated steel washers are corrosion resistant in wet environments.
316 stainless steel and zinc-flake-coated steel washers are comparable to NORD-LOCK® Series washers.

Metric Tab Lock Washers

Bend the tab of these metric lock washers against the flats of a hex nut or bolt head to prevent the fastener and washer from turning and loosening due to vibration, wear, or changes in temperature. Their partial cone shape gives these washers spring-like flexibility, so they distribute force and grip tighter than split and tooth lock washers. All meet DIN 432, an international standard for tab washer dimensions.
Steel washers resist wear better than 316 stainless steel, but aren’t as corrosion resistant.
316 stainless steel washers are more corrosion resistant than steel, and nearly as strong. You can expose them to salt water, chlorine solutions, and chemicals without any rusting.
