Trace unshielded data and telephone cables to their source. Attach the identifier with the included alligator clips and send a signal through the cable. The signal is then received by the removable handheld probe. As you get closer to the cable you're tracing, the probe's audio and visual signals get stronger.

Identify the circuit breaker connected to an electrical receptacle. The transmitter plugs into the receptacle and sends a signal through the cable to the receiver. Move the receiver over the breakers, and light and sound alerts indicate when you find the correct breaker.

Identify breakers and ferret out faults without cutting power to critical systems. More versatile than a breaker finder, circuit tracers track the path of an entire energized or de-energized circuit’s wiring through walls, ceilings, and floors. They’ll even detect wires underground without being blocked by conduit or cement.
Each tracer kit includes a transmitter and a wireless receiver. Plug the transmitter’s leads into an outlet or connect its alligator clips to bare conductors to send a signal through the circuit you want to trace. Then, move the receiver against the wall like a stud finder to follow the signal’s path and detect the circuit’s wiring. Boost the receiver’s sensitivity if the signal strength drops as you move away from the transmitter, or dial it down to eliminate false positives from nearby circuits. Keeping the sensitivity low is also useful when you need to single out a specific wire within a bundle.
High-Resolution Circuit Tracer—The safest choice for circuits near your building’s incoming power source, where the risk of injury from power surges is high. Our tracers are rated CAT IV to protect against power surges up to 8,000 V, so they’re safe for use with electricity meters, transformers, outdoor conductors, and other utility-level connections. The kits also include a clamp-on lead. Squeeze its jaws around covered wires to send a tracing signal without interrupting the circuit.
