    About Wire and Cable
    industrial info icon

Compare wire vs. cable and choose the right option based on gauge, number of conductors, insulation, and current rating.

    Armored Building Cable

Also known as metal clad (MC) cable, this cable has metal armor that acts as conduit to protect the building wires. It's often used along the exterior of walls to carry power to outlet boxes. It has a ground wire that is not counted in the number of wires.
Hazardous location environmental ratings indicate whether manufacturers have included safety features in products to facilitate their safe use in a hazardous environment. Before selecting a product for a hazardous location, ensure it is rated for your environment.

    Harsh-Environment Power Cable

Image of Product. Front orientation. Power Cable. Harsh-Environment Power Cable, Type P Cable with Bronze Armor.

Type P Cable with Bronze Armor

Transmit power in dirty, corrosive environments such as offshore rigs and ships. This cable is strong enough to resist crushing forces from heavy equipment. Its CPE jacket and tin-plated copper conductors maintain power in areas exposed to chemicals, oil, and salt water. It meets UL 1309 for high-performance marine cables, yet works just as well on land.
Bronze Armor—A layer of bronze armor between the two outer jackets boosts resistance to abrasion, impact, and crushing.

    Duct-Rated Fire Alarm Cable

Also known as plenum cable, this FPLP cable has low-smoke insulation and can be used without conduit in duct work and above a drop ceiling. The insulation is also flame resistant for use in critical circuits such as fire alarm systems and smoke detectors.
Unshielded—Use unshielded cable in applications where signal interference is not a concern.
Shielded—Shielded cable has a layer of foil that blocks signal interference from nearby equipment and devices. It has an uninsulated ground wire that is not counted in the number of wires.

Armored Building Cable with Uninsulated Ground Wire

Image of Product. Front orientation. Building Cable. Armored Building Cable with Uninsulated Ground Wire.
Also known as AC cable, this cable has an uninsulated aluminum ground wire that's in constant contact with the aluminum armor, so it can be used for bonding and grounding. The uninsulated ground wire is not counted in the number of wires. The armor acts as conduit to protect the THHN building wires. It's often used along the exterior of walls to carry power to outlet boxes. All are flame rated VW-1 to meet requirements for preventing the spread of flames based on a timed test with vertically suspended material.

Power Cords for Electric Door Locks

Image of Product. Front orientation. Power Cords. Power Cords for Electric Door Locks.
Transfer power between your door frame and door to power electric locks or exit devices. These cords mount on the surface of the door, rather than inside the frame, so they’re easier to install than other power transfer devices such as hinges and mortises. A stainless steel armor protects the wire leads and prevents tampering with your lock.
Choose a cord based on your door's opening direction. For doors that open outward, the cord is longer to accommodate the extra distance the door moves as it swings away from the frame.

    Armored Thermocouple Cords with Connectors

With plug-in connectors on both ends, these cords extend the reach of your thermocouple. Made of thermocouple materials, they prevent signal loss.
Choose a cord that matches your thermocouple type. You should also make sure the equipment you're connecting it to is compatible with the same thermocouple type.
Stainless Steel Jacket—These cords are protected by a stainless steel armor that also resists corrosion and wear.

    Long-Life USB Cords

With Kevlar-reinforced armor, these USB cords stand up to frequent use and bending better than standard USB cords. Use them to move data between computers, printers, and mobile devices in places where cords may be dropped, pulled, and bent in odd directions. These cords also have a long, flexible strain relief for extra durability where the cable meets the connector. Cords with a higher USB standard transmit data faster than cords with a lower USB standard. Backward compatible, all work with cords and connectors that meet the same or a lower USB standard.
