Produce smooth cuts on flat surfaces.
Style A planes are also known as block planes. Their low cutting angle slices through wood more easily than bench planes, but can tear wood along the grain. They're best for planing across the grain.
Style B planes are also known as bench planes. Use them to plane along the wood grain.
