    Ultra-High-Temperature Molybdenum Rods

    These molybdenum rods conduct both heat and electricity, and they won’t deform at high temperatures. They’re often used as heating elements, boring bars, electrodes, and heat sinks. These rods resist corrosion from acids and molten materials such as glass and metal. Molybdenum is easier to machine than tungsten, but it’s not as dense.

    Ultra-High-Temperature Molybdenum Foil

    Thin and easy-to-cut, this 99.95% pure molybdenum foil is often used in parts that process molten glass, heat shields in furnaces, and as filament supports in high-intensity light bulbs. Also known as refractory metal, it has a higher melting point than most metal. Molybdenum is roughly nine times more thermally conductive than Kovar nickel alloy, so heat passes through and moves away from the material quickly. It also has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, about half that of most steel, which means it won’t deform when exposed to an increase in temperature. However, molybdenum is denser than Kovar nickel alloy and steel. Known for conducting heat and electricity better than tantalum and platinum, it’s often used as semiconductors in motors and power supplies and parts in solar cells.
    This material resists oxidation at temperatures below 750° F but will rapidly oxidize when exposed to air above 1400° F, making it ideal for high temperature vacuum environments. It also resists corrosion from acids as well as molten materials such as metal, alloys, and glass compounds. However, it will corrode from alkalis when it starts to oxidize.

    Ultra-High-Temperature High-Strength Molybdenum Rods

    Containing zirconium and titanium for additional strength in extreme temperatures, these rods are commonly used in vacuum furnaces and other high-stress environments. At 2372° F, they’re twice as strong as pure molybdenum rods. While they can be used at lower temperatures, they perform best between 1292° F and 2552° F in nonoxidizing environments. These rods also have high creep strength, meaning they resist deforming under stress over time. They’re often used in parts that endure long-term stress, such as rotating anodes in X-ray machines.

It resists oxidation and won’t corrode. Molybdenum is better at conducting heat and electricity than tantalum and platinum, which also have high melting points. It is not, however, as corrosion resistant.
