    Circuit Board Capacitors

Circuit board capacitors store electrical energy and release it all at once, similar to a camera flash. They're often used to boost power briefly to start a motor, filter electric current for a clear signal, or smooth out current spikes.
Capacitance is how much charge a capacitor stores, measured in farads. One microfarad (µF) is equal to 1,000 nanofarads (nF), and 1 nanofarad is equal to 1,000 picofarads (pF).
    Through-Hole Mount
Through-hole circuit board capacitors have parallel wire leads, also known as radial leads. Push the wire leads through holes in a circuit board, then solder them in place and clip off the excess wire.
Ceramic Capacitor—Ceramic capacitors withstand a wide range of temperatures, but they typically don’t store as much charge as aluminum electrolytic capacitors. They work well at high frequencies.
Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitor—Aluminum electrolytic capacitors tend to store more charge than ceramic capacitors, but they don’t work as well at high frequencies. They’re often used in power supplies.
Metalized Polypropylene Film Capacitor—Metalized polypropylene film capacitors can operate at higher voltages than ceramic and aluminum electrolytic capacitors. They also have better capacitance tolerances.

    Capacitance Decade Boxes

Image of Product. Front orientation. Decade Boxes. Capacitance Decade Boxes.
Test, troubleshoot, and prototype a circuit without having to solder and desolder individual capacitors. These boxes apply a specific capacitance to your circuit so you can determine the optimal capacitance needed.
Use these boxes in testing and development in place of a capacitor. To integrate them into your circuit, make connections to the binding posts, then flip a switch or combination of switches. When troubleshooting a circuit, you'll know your issue was a faulty capacitor if you connect the box in its place and the circuit behaves as expected. For prototyping, they'll help you determine what size capacitor your circuit needs. Or, just use them instead of a capacitor if you don't feel like soldering.
The switches are additive, so you can create any capacitance, in 100 pF increments, from 100 pF to 11.111 µF.
