    Precision Spider Couplings

    Spider Couplings

    With two hubs gripping a rubbery spider in the center, these couplings damp vibration and transfer torque while flexing to handle misaligned shafts. The metal hubs never touch each other, so there's no need for lubrication. Also known as Lovejoy® couplings. For a complete coupling, select two hubs and one spider or two hubs, one split spider, and one retaining ring. Choose components with the same trade size to ensure they'll fit together.

    High-Parallel-Misalignment Slotted Disc Couplings

    Unlike couplings that flex to handle offset shafts, these have a slotted center disc that allows shafts to slide independently to compensate for parallel misalignment. The plastic center disc also helps transmit torque while preventing metal-to-metal contact between hubs, so there's no lubrication required. Also known as Oldham couplings. For a complete coupling, select two hubs and one disc. Choose components of the same trade size to ensure they'll fit together.

    Spiral Cut

    Parallel Cut

    Machined with slits, these one-piece couplings flex to transfer full torque (zero backlash) and compensate for tiny misalignments.
    Spiral Cut—Long slits along the surface help the coupling flex and handle greater misalignment than parallel cut couplings. They're also less rigid, so they're best used with light duty machinery, such as encoders and stepper drives. Also known as helical beam couplings.
    Parallel Cut—With short, intermittent slits, these couplings are more rigid and handle more torque and speed than spiral cut couplings. However, they don't handle misalignment as well. Use them in linear test systems, scientific instruments, and other high-torque applications.
    303 Stainless Steel—More corrosion resistant and stronger than aluminum couplings, these withstand mild cleaning solutions, such as acetone and ammonia.

    Servomotor Precision Bonded Couplings

    With a bonded rubber center, these couplings damp vibration and accommodate misalignment on servomotors.     Set Screw Shaft Collars

    Slide these traditional collars from one end of the shaft and tighten the set screw. They dig into the shaft for a secure hold, but one that leaves a gouge. For maximum holding power, make sure the set screw is harder than the shaft.
    Zinc-Plated Carbon Steel—A step up from plain carbon steel collars, these withstand occasional exposure to moisture.
    Blue Passivated Zinc-Plated Carbon Steel—Withstand moisture and mild chemicals better than standard zinc-plated-steel collars. The blue passivated finish makes it easy to identify metric collars at a glance.
