Precision Spider Couplings

Position shafts and handle misalignment on precision motors, pumps, and other equipment that requires highly controlled movements. These couplings have a hard, rubber spider to fully transfer torque from one shaft to the other (zero backlash). They're also known as precision jaw couplings. Choose components with the same trade size to ensure they'll fit together.

Hubs

The metal body mounts onto shafts to transmit torque from one shaft to the other through the flexible center.

Aluminum—Lightweight and corrosion resistant.

Clamp-On Shaft Mount—Grip shafts evenly without marring them and hold tighter than set screws. Tighten the clamping screws to secure.

Set-Screw Shaft Mount—Screws dig into your shaft for a secure hold.

Spider Couplings

With two hubs gripping a rubbery spider in the center, these couplings damp vibration and transfer torque while flexing to handle misaligned shafts. The metal hubs never touch each other, so there's no need for lubrication. Also known as Lovejoy® couplings. For a complete coupling, select two hubs and one spider or two hubs, one split spider, and one retaining ring. Choose components with the same trade size to ensure they'll fit together.

Spiders

Hytrel—Stiffer than Buna-N, these spiders transmit torque from one shaft to the other almost fully but offer minimal vibration damping.

Metal-Impregnated Buna-N—Vibration damping and highly tear resistant. The rubber contains metal, so it will trigger a metal detector if a piece contaminates your batch.

Metal-Impregnated Hytrel—Stiffer than Buna-N, these spiders transmit torque from one shaft to the other almost fully but offer minimal vibration damping. The Hytrel contains metal, so it will trigger a metal detector if a piece contaminates your batch.
