Straight flutes withstand the heavy pressure needed to penetrate hardened steel. These bits cut more aggressively and resist stress better than spiral-flute bits. A lower-priced alternative to solid carbide, they stay sharp when drilling abrasive material but won’t last as long.

Tough and wear resistant, cobalt steel bits last at least twice as long as high-speed steel. They can also run up to 25% faster at higher temperatures without being damaged on hard materials, such as nickel.

A lithium ion (Li-Ion) battery powers these cordless drills, which means they weigh less and have a longer run-time than cordless drills that use nickel cadmium (NiCad) batteries. All have a variable speed motor—the further you depress the trigger, the faster the drill rotates.

Performance similar to solid carbide but at a lower price point. Like carbide bits, these are stronger than cobalt and high-speed steel and maintain their sharp edges when drilling abrasive material. However, when drilling tough metals like iron and hardened steel, upgrade to carbide for longer life.

Bits have a different tip at each end and snap into the shaft. A ball detent holds the bit in place. To use as nutdriver, remove the bit and turn fasteners with the shaft, which is also reversible.

Just twist the collar ring and these tools will change from a standard cordless drill to a hammer drill.

The rotary-only mode is for general purpose drilling and driving fasteners. Use this mode with standard drill bits for wood and metal as well as masonry drill bits. In rotary-percussion mode, the tool provides both a rotary drilling and hammering action. The hammering action pounds concrete and masonry, which breaks up the material while it drills.
