    Tap and Drill Bit Sets

Image of Product. Front orientation. Tap and Drill Bit Sets. Tap and Drill Bit Sets, Plastic Case.

    Plastic Case

Drill and tap a variety of hole sizes. These taps and drill bits are for use on metal and plastic.
Uncoated Carbon Steel Tap—Uncoated carbon steel taps are for thread repair and occasional tapping.
Plug Chamfer—Plug-chamfer taps are a versatile choice for most tapping applications. With 3-5 chamfered cutting threads, they require moderate torque and are often used for start-to-finish tapping of through holes and closed-end holes. However, they do not start threads as easily as taper chamfers. When using them to tap closed-end holes, be sure to leave sufficient space at the bottom for chips to accumulate.
Black-Oxide High-Speed Steel Drill Bit—Black-oxide high-speed steel drill bits have a longer tool life than carbon steel. They cut with less friction than uncoated drill bits.

Quick-Change Hex Drill-Bit Countersinks for Wood and Plastic

Switch bits instead of tools to simplify jobs. These snap directly into drills, power screwdrivers, and other tools that accept a 1/4" hex shank. You can slide the countersink up and down the drill bit and then secure it with a set screw, so one tool will drill countersunk holes for screws of different lengths. These countersinks cut a smooth and even finish in wood and plastic on the first pass.

    Depth Stops

These wear-resistant countersinks cut faster and last longer than carbon steel countersinks, so they’re often used for high-volume jobs. You can also use them on harder materials, such as steel and stainless steel.

    Reamers for Taper Pipe

Use these reamers to shape and finish a hole to a tapered pipe size before tapping.
    Square Shank

    Spiral Flute

Turn these reamers by hand with an adjustable wrench or straight-handle tap wrench (sold separately).
Spiral Flute—Since these reamers clear chips better than straight flutes, they leave holes with a smoother finish. They're better for holes with breaks in the surface, such as a keyway, because they cut continuously across the breaks instead of moving in and out.
High-Speed Steel—Durable and wear resistant, these are good for general purpose reaming in most materials.
Left-Hand Spiral—These reamers push chips downward as they cut, so they're often used in through holes.

    Reamers for Taper-Pin Holes

Shape holes to match the profile of taper pins. After drilling a hole that matches the size of the small end of the taper pin you want to install, use these reamers to taper and finish the hole.

    Helix Flute

These reamers fit in the chuck of drill presses, turret lathes, and other machine and power tools, making them the most common shank type.
Helix Flute—Prevent clogging when removing excess material with helix flutes. They also leave a smoother finish than straight flutes.
High-Speed Steel—Durable and wear resistant, these are good for general purpose reaming in most materials.

    Straight Flute

    Spiral Flute

Turn these reamers by hand with an adjustable wrench, straight-handle tap wrench, or pin vise (sold separately).
Straight Flute—The most common flute style, these reamers are suitable for a wide range of applications, but not recommended for holes with a keyway or other breaks in the surface.
Spiral Flute—Since these reamers clear chips better than straight flutes, they leave holes with a smoother finish. They're better for holes with breaks in the surface, such as a keyway, because they cut continuously across the breaks instead of moving in and out.

Because they make contact on the flat sides of fasteners rather than only on the corners, these bits significantly reduce slipping and stripping. They are also known as lobular bits.
Quick-Change Hex Shank—Quick-change hex shank bits have a groove in the shank and fit directly into power tools without an adapter. They offer more reach for recessed holes and less wobble compared to a hex shank bit used with an adapter.

Use these end mills for general purpose milling in most material, such as aluminum, brass, bronze, iron, and steel. They have a ball end for milling rounded slots, slopes, and contours. All are center cutting, allowing plunge cuts into a surface.
Uncoated High-Speed Steel—Use uncoated end mills for general purpose milling and short production runs.
4 Flutes—End mills with four flutes provide a finer finish and operate with less vibration when run at high speeds.

All the tools you need to quickly remove various sizes of the most stubborn bolts. Made with an oversized shank and hardened steel, the bits and extractors in these sets are built to handle the high torque of impact wrenches without snapping. Drill a pilot hole with the left-hand drill bit, then insert the extractor. The part will back out without damaging the threads around it. They work well even in hard materials like stainless steel.
You’ll need a VersaDrive chuck (sold separately) to install the drill bits and extractors into your impact wrench. You can also get chucks for impact drivers and magnetic-base drills (both sold separately). For jobs that don’t require the torque of an impact tool, you can fit these drill bits and extractors directly into a 1/2" chuck on a standard power drill.

    3 Flutes

With better heat and wear resistance than high-speed steel, these cobalt steel end mills can run at higher speeds and provide better performance on hard material, such as iron and steel. Also known as taper degree end mills, they're often used to machine angled slots in dies and molds.
Uncoated Cobalt Steel—Use uncoated end mills for general purpose milling and short production runs. They stay sharper than coated end mills when used on soft materials like aluminum, leaving a better finish.
Titanium Nitride (TiN)-Coated Cobalt Steel—Use titanium nitride (TiN)-coated end mills for demanding, high-speed jobs in hard material as well as for longer production runs. They create less friction than uncoated end mills, which means they last longer when run at similar speeds.
3 Flutes—End mills with three flutes provide better chip clearance for high-volume, high-speed plunge, slotting, and roughing cuts.
Center Cutting—Center-cutting end mills allow plunge cuts into a surface.
Noncenter Cutting—Noncenter-cutting end mills are for operations where the peripheral teeth do most of the work, such as shoulder milling, contouring, and finishing. They cannot be used for plunge cuts.
