Tough and wear resistant, cobalt steel bits last at least twice as long as high-speed steel. They can also run up to 25% faster at higher temperatures without being damaged on hard materials, such as nickel.
Short Length—The most rigid bits for drilling the straightest holes.
Titanium Nitride (TiN) Coated—Drill at higher speeds and last longer than uncoated and oxide-coated bits, especially on tough materials like hardened steel and nickel.

The hardest and most wear-resistant bits, the flutes clear chips and improve coolant flow. They prevent clogs and dissipate heat that can damage the bit and the hole. Carbide bits stay sharp at high temperatures and faster speeds for the best performance on hard and difficult-to-machine materials. They last 10 to 20 times longer than cobalt steel. Carbide can be brittle, however, so these bits require a rigid machine tool holder to prevent breakage and should not be used in hand drilling applications.
Jobbers' Length—These bits have the balance of rigidity and length needed for most applications.
Titanium Nitride (TiN) Coated—Drill at higher speeds and last longer than uncoated bits, especially on materials like hardened steel, iron, and stainless steel.
Uncoated—Excellent for a range of materials but won't last as long as coated bits.

    Ball Cut Style

With a higher helix angle than standard high-speed steel end mills, these clear more chips and generate less heat, making them good for milling soft material, such as aluminum, brass and bronze. They have a ball end for milling rounded slots, slopes, and contours. All are center cutting, allowing plunge cuts into a surface.

Use these end mills for general purpose milling in most material, such as aluminum, brass, bronze, iron, and steel. They have a ball end for milling rounded slots, slopes, and contours. All are center cutting, allowing plunge cuts into a surface.
Uncoated High-Speed Steel—Use uncoated end mills for general purpose milling and short production runs.
4 Flutes—End mills with four flutes provide a finer finish and operate with less vibration when run at high speeds.

    4 Flutes

With better heat and wear resistance than high-speed steel, these cobalt steel end mills can run at higher speeds and provide better performance on hard material, such as iron, hardened steel, titanium, and tool steel. They have a square end for milling square slots, pockets, and edges.
End mills with fewer flutes provide better chip clearance for high-volume, high-speed plunge, slotting, and roughing cuts; end mills with more flutes provide a finer finish and operate with less vibration when run at high speeds.
Uncoated Cobalt Steel—Use uncoated end mills for general purpose milling and short production runs.
Center Cutting—Center-cutting end mills allow plunge cuts into a surface.

    3 Flutes

With a higher helix angle than standard high-speed steel end mills, these clear more chips and generate less heat, making them good for milling soft material, such as aluminum, brass and bronze. They are center cutting for making plunge cuts into surfaces and have a square-end cut style for milling square slots, pockets, and edges.
Uncoated High-Speed Steel—Use uncoated end mills for general purpose milling and short production runs.
Titanium Carbon Nitride (TiCN)-Coated High-Speed Steel—Use titanium carbon nitride (TiCN)-coated end mills for demanding, high-speed jobs in hard material as well as for longer production runs. They have a hard, smooth finish that resists chipping and wear and prevents material from accumulating on the cutting edge. They’re especially good for use in aluminum.
2 Flutes—End mills with two flutes provide better chip clearance for high-volume, high-speed plunge, slotting, and roughing cuts.
3 Flutes—End mills with three flutes produce a finer finish and operate with less vibration when run at high speeds.
