    Double-Cut Face—Surface has two sets of diagonal teeth and is often used with heavier pressure than single cut for rapid material removal.
    Single-Cut Face—Surface has one set of diagonal teeth and is often used with light pressure to slowly remove material and sharpen tool-cutting surfaces.
    Single-Cut Face with Chip Breaker—Speed up reaching a fine finish. They remove material as quickly as double-cut files while leaving behind a smooth finish at the same time. They have single-cut teeth divided by diagonal cutting edges that act as chip breakers—the chip breakers rough the surface while the single-cut teeth smooth it.
    Rubber Handle—Files with rubber handles have a cushioned, comfortable grip.
    Wood Handle—Files with wood handles have a durable grip that's shaped to fit comfortably in your hand.

    Precision File Sets

    Made to exacting measurements, the files in these sets give you precise control over how much material you remove. Also known as Swiss-pattern files, they create more consistent finishes than American-pattern files. Use them for smoothing intricate parts and other applications where accuracy is key. All files are double cut, which means their surface has two sets of diagonal teeth. They remove material more quickly than single cut files, but you’ll need to use heavier pressure.

    Detail Polishing Stone Assortments

Made of bonded ceramic, they’re harder and more wear resistant than aluminum oxide stones, but flexible enough not to crack under pressure. The stones in these assortments are filled with oil to keep debris from getting stuck in the pores, so you don’t have to stop and clean the surface. Made of aluminum oxide, these stones also abrade slowly to give you more control over how much material you remove. Use a holder to polish by hand or with a power tool (both sold separately). Apply an additional water-soluble or oil-based lubricant to reduce friction and heat, and to wash away debris.

    Keep stones of different grits on hand for each step of polishing steel tools, molds, and dies. The polishing stones in these assortments are the most common choice for general polishing. These stones can be used by hand or in a power tool with a holder (both sold separately). To keep debris from building up, apply a water-soluble or oil-based lubricant during use.
    Aluminum Oxide Abrasive—Aluminum oxide stones, also known as India stones, scrape away material slowly to give you more control over how much material you take off. They are good for the final stage of polishing.
    Silicon Carbide Abrasive—Silicon carbide stones, also known as Crystolon stones, are extremely sharp. These stones remove material more quickly than aluminum oxide stones. They are best for the early polishing stage when you want to clear away more material from your work surface. However, they give you less control over material removal than aluminum oxide stones, so stopping at an exact point is more difficult to do.
