Pads—Putty pads are often used to seal the area around electrical boxes. Mold them onto the sides of the box before installing it in a wall or floor.

Expandable—Often used to seal the area around PVC pipes or cables, it expands when heated to fill the gaps left if your equipment melts.

Flammability Rating—This putty is tested to ASTM and UL standards to stop the spread of smoke and flames.

Acrylic Plastic—Acrylic plastic caulk is water-based, which is the most common formula for fire-stop caulk. It’s a good choice for most applications.

Flat Weatherstripping Seal—Flat seals press tight against smooth surfaces to form a solid barrier. However, they don’t compensate for uneven surfaces as well as bulb seals. Behind the seal, there’s a fire-stop strip that expands to eight times its original size in temperatures above 375° F. During a fire, it completely fills any gaps. This weatherstripping is often added to existing fire doors to help them meet NFPA safety regulations without replacing the entire door. Use end plates to cover the sides of the doors for a finished look from every angle.

Neoprene Seal—Neoprene is more weather resistant than vinyl. It stands up to abrasion, water, oil, and detergents.

Stainless Steel—Stainless steel is stronger than aluminum, so it holds its shape better if exposed to fire. It’s also more chemical and corrosion resistant.

Steel—Made of steel, they have a firestop coating that expands when it’s heated. If the equipment passing through these panels melts or shrinks during a fire, this coating will fill the gaps.

Paintable—Once sheets are installed, you can paint over them without losing fire protection.

Cut-to-Size—Cut-to-size blocks can be customized to fill odd-shaped openings. They expand in all directions when exposed to flames, so you can cut them without reducing their fire protection.

Hook and Loop Attachment Strips—Blocks with hook and loop attachment strips can be locked together or taken apart easily, so they're good for creating temporary barriers. Their cover expands in two directions when exposed to flames. Do not cut these blocks, or they will lose their shape and fail to stop fire and smoke.
