Balsa—Balsa lapping sticks are good for delicate, final finishing. Our softest option, they’re gentle on the surface of your workpiece. However, they wear down more quickly than basswood and beech sticks.
Basswood—Basswood lapping sticks are good for intermediate to final finishing. A great general purpose option, they’re more durable than balsa but smoother than beech lapping sticks.
Beech—Beech lapping sticks are best for intensive lapping. You can apply more pressure with them than basswood and balsa as they hold their shape better. Their hardness, however, will wear your workpiece surface down more quickly and you’ll have less control than with other lapping sticks.
