    External Threading

    Internal Threading

    Install these inserts into a matching holder to cut external or internal threads on a workpiece. They are compatible with top-notch style threading and grooving systems, which use a highly-rigid clamping design, resulting in a smoother finish and superior tool life. When the edge on one face is dull, flip the insert over. Choose a holder (sold separately) with a shank size that fits your machine and workpiece setup. Larger shanks are more stable, while smaller shanks fit into tighter spaces and allow for finer cuts.

    Pair these holders with a threading insert or a grooving insert to make cuts on the inside of a hollow workpiece. Their highly rigid clamping design results in a smoother finish and superior tool life. They are compatible with top-notch style threading and grooving systems. Coolant holes within these holders direct coolant from your machine onto your workpiece, minimizing heat while threading or grooving. Coolant also helps flush out chips, preventing clogging and extending tool life.
    Right-Hand Cutting Direction—Use a right-hand internal holder with a left-hand insert when the workpiece is rotating counterclockwise (toward the lathe operator).
    Left-Hand Cutting Direction—Use a left-hand internal holder with a right-hand insert when the workpiece is rotating clockwise (away from the lathe operator).
    Carbide—Carbide holders are more rigid than steel holders, so they vibrate less and leave a smoother finish.

    These tools come with one high-speed steel insert for use on steel and stainless steel and one high-speed steel insert for use on softer materials, such as aluminum and brass. When one point of an insert dulls, rotate it to use a sharp point. When all points dull, replace the insert rather than the whole tool.
    1/2" Wide Shank—Tool with 1/2" shank can cut external right-hand threads with one end and internal right-hand threads with the other.

    Internal Threading

    Pair these S-code holders with a compatible carbide insert (sold separately) to cut threads inside a workpiece. Inserts sit lower in these holders than in other types of holders, which gives you extra clearance for threading close to a shoulder. Their clamp also holds the insert more securely, so you can create more precise threads. Fit these holders directly into a lathe tool post or holder—no tool block needed. They cut in a right-hand direction, meaning the holder moves from right to left toward the lathe chuck. They’re also known as indexable insert holders.

    Install these inserts in an S-code holder (sold separately) to cut precise threads inside your workpiece. They’re designed to sit lower in the holder than other inserts, which keeps them from twisting and lets you thread closer to a shoulder. Their PVD coating keeps them sharper longer than CVD-coated inserts, so they’re good for cutting stainless steel. You can also use them to cut non-ferrous metals.
