About Replacing Tubular Fluorescent Light Bulbs

T5 and T5/HO

Brightness is measured in lumens; the higher the lumens, the brighter the bulb. Color rendering index (CRI) is a measurement on a scale of 0-100 of how accurately the light from a bulb represents an object's true colors; the higher the number, the more natural the colors appear. Any CRI value over 80 will show colors true to life. Bulbs with a warm light appearance have yellow tones. Bulbs with a neutral light appearance are often used in workspaces. Bulbs with a cool or daylight appearance have white/blue tones and are good for inspecting. A bulb’s estimated yearly cost is based on 3 hours of usage per day at $0.11 per kWh.

LED bulbs last longer and are more efficient than fluorescent bulbs. They generate little heat and withstand vibration. Socket-ready bulbs work with most instant-start electronic ballasts, but not all. For a full list of compatible ballasts select a part number and view product detail. Ballast bypass bulbs eliminate the need for a ballast so the socket must be wired directly to the power source.

Swap out the high-intensity discharge (HID) bulbs in your hazardous-location lights to lower energy costs. These LED bulbs are rated for NEC Class I, Division 2 locations, so they’re safe to use near combustible concentrations of gas. They last longer than HID bulbs and achieve the same brightness with fewer lumens. Match the wattage of the bulb you’re replacing. These are ballast bypass bulbs—install them in a socket that’s wired directly to the power source.

Easy-Retrofit Machine Lights

Update conventional fluorescent tubular lights with newer LED technology. These lights match the diameter of most older lights and fit existing brackets without the need to drill new mounting holes. They have a durable lens that resists coolants, lubricants, and impact from chips and shavings. All are rated IP67 for protection against dust and temporary submersion, so these lights can handle your wettest environments.

Style A have a traditional tubular design that distributes light more evenly than Style B. Plug them into a standard outlet and use the switch built into the cord to turn them on and off.

Style B have a flat lens that directs light downward. Hardwire them to your power supply. They come with mounting brackets at each end. Optional mounting brackets (sold separately) clip anywhere along the light, so you can position them where it makes sense for your machine.

Add a power supply (sold separately) to transform your facility’s AC voltage to DC voltage. Mount the power supply outside of your machine to protect it from heat.

Color-Changing Tubular Machine Lights

Know your machine’s status at a glance—green for running, red for stopped, yellow for standby. Using your programmable logic controller (PLC), you can adjust the brightness of these lights and mix red, green, and blue light to achieve thousands of colors. They shine a bright white by default to illuminate your production line.

With a smooth, shatterproof lens, these lights have no crevices where debris can accumulate. Their stainless steel connectors, plastic lens, and mounting brackets resist acids, alkalis, and other chemicals commonly used in food environment washdowns. All are IP rated to seal out dust and withstand high-pressure, high-temperature sprays required for sanitizing.

Use the included hardware to install them in your machine. They require a 5-pole micro M12 socket (sold separately) to connect to your PLC.
