Move loads with consistent, repeatable push-pull motion. These actuators hold their loads in position even if power fails. Some actuators have a brake that prevents loads from shifting even slightly, so they’re best for vertical and high-vibration applications.
To protect the motor from overload when the extension rod is at the end of the stroke, all actuators have either a limit switch or clutch. Fixed limit switches cannot be moved to adjust the length of the stroke. Move adjustable limit switches to change the length of the stroke. Actuators with a load-limiting clutch also protect the motor from jams and impact or shock loads. If the load exceeds the maximum capacity or if the extension rod reaches the end of its stroke, the clutch slips and stops the rod from moving. You can set the clutch to slip at a specific load capacity.
Actuators with automatic overload protection prevent damage to the motor from overheating. They have a switch that shuts off the motor if it’s too warm or if it exceeds the maximum duty cycle. The switch automatically resets once the motor is cool enough to operate.
All actuators have a clevis hole on each end for mounting. Secure both ends of actuators with rotating extension rods to fixed surfaces, so the rod extends and retracts instead of rotates. Twist the extension rod until the clevis holes line up with your mounting bracket. Only the motor body end of actuators with nonrotating extension rods needs to be mounted to a fixed surface. Their clevis ends cannot twist.
Maximum speed is how fast the actuator will move under no-load conditions. If you increase the load, the actuator speed will decrease. Use a speed-load chart to confirm which actuator will work for your application. Click on a part number and select “Product Detail” to view the chart for an actuator.

Spend less time on solenoid maintenance in dirty environments—these have a closed steel housing that keeps dust out.
Pull solenoids exert force when the rod retracts.
Push solenoids exert force when the rod extends.

Water-Resistant Sealed Linear Solenoids
![](/prerenderstable/mvPRE/contents/gfx/imagecache/699/69905k812-@halfx_636946269910848146.png?ver=imagenotfound)
Great for use in damp and dirty environments, these solenoids meet IP65 for protection from dust and spraying water. They have two-pin plugs that are compatible with Deutsch-style DC connectors (sold separately). They can be used to pull or push. To pull, install them with the connector pins facing your device; to push, install them facing away.

High-force solenoids draw more power than our other open-frame solenoids, so they can deliver higher force. They also have a laminated rod that minimizes friction during operation.
Pull solenoids exert force when the rod retracts.
Push solenoids exert force when the rod extends.

A thin profile allows these solenoids to fit well in narrow spaces. You can use them to push or pull—use the side with the unthreaded rod (R) and two mounting studs to push or use the opposite side with the threaded rod to pull.

Plug-In Electric Actuators with Manual Controls
Without any hardwiring, these actuators give you control over your push-pull motion using either a hand or foot switch. Plug the actuator and the hand or foot switch into the control box (all sold separately). If power fails, actuators hold their loads in position. The brake prevents loads from shifting even slightly, making these actuators useful in vertical and high-vibration applications. Both actuator ends must be secured to fixed surfaces for the rod to extend and retract rather than rotate. Twist the extension rod until the clevis holes line up with your mounting holes. Fasten with clevis pins.
Control boxes supply power to actuators and switches. They have their own overload protection switch, which prevents damage to the actuator from overheating. If triggered, manually reset the switch after the actuator has cooled.
Switches have separate buttons to extend and retract each actuator they control. Some switches can be used to operate as many as three separate actuators.
IP04 rated actuators stand up to splashing water. IP66 rated actuators seal out dust and water from washdowns.
Maximum speed is how fast the actuator will move under no-load conditions. If you increase the load, the actuator speed will decrease. Use a speed-load chart to confirm which actuator will work for your application. Click on a part number and select “Product Detail” to view the chart for an actuator.

A lead screw that converts rotational motion to linear motion sits inside the motor body for a compact footprint. Add a driver and controller to these actuators to repeatedly position loads with speed and precision. Moving in small, equal steps, these actuators are good for jobs requiring fine motion control, such as positioning electrical components on a circuit board. Their load stays in position even when a counteracting force is applied, so you don’t need encoders, sensors, or other position feedback devices.
All have bipolar hybrid stepper motors, which deliver greater torque, precision, and efficiency than other types of stepper motors. The splined shaft keeps the rod from rotating as it extends and retracts.
Travel distance per full step determines the control you have over the actuator's positioning. The smaller the measurement, the finer positioning control you have, but the more steps it will take to go the same distance.
Dynamic load capacity is the maximum load an actuator can move. If you increase the speed, the dynamic load capacity decreases. Click on a part number and select "Product Detail" to view the load-speed chart and confirm the actuator will work for your application.

With an included controller and an integrated stepper motor, these slides are a complete precision motion control system. The stepper motor moves the low-friction ball screw and carriage smoothly at high speeds, similar to an inkjet printer head. To make sure the carriage is in the right place, the built-in encoder sends data to the controller. At ± 0.02 mm, these slides have a repeatability thinner than a single strand of hair, so the carriage hits the same spot every time. They work well in automated assemblies and other processes requiring accurate, repeatable motion.
For the initial setup, program the slides using the free, downloadable software, THK D-STEP. No coding necessary—simply enter the target position, speed, and acceleration for up to 16 different slides. This software also records position, speed, and motor current data, so you can monitor performance, optimize motion, and troubleshoot issues.
After the initial setup, the controller stores and runs sequences of up to 512 unique steps on its own. The controller also communicates with other devices such as PLCs, switches, and sensors. This means it can be integrated into a larger automated system to react to or trigger other processes as the carriage moves.
Travel distance per turn, also known as screw lead, is how far the carriage moves with one rotation of the ball screw.
Dynamic load capacity is the maximum load slides can move. If you increase the speed, the dynamic load capacity decreases. Use a load-speed chart to confirm which slides will work for your application. Click on a part number and select "Product Detail" to view the chart.
