Molex Compact Connector Sets

Connectors come assembled with wire leads already installed so they can be quickly added to existing wiring systems. Each set includes one plug and one socket. A locking tab keeps them securely in place when mated. Do not mate tin-plated connectors with gold-plated connectors because the contact points will corrode.

Tin-Plated Brass Pins and Sleeves—Tin-plated connectors are best for unexposed, mated connections, since they may corrode in harsh environments. Use them in applications where they won’t have to be mated and unmated multiple times. They’re more prone to noise on a signal line than gold-plated connectors, so they should be used in areas that create low noise in contacts.

Gold-Plated Brass Pins and Sleeves—Gold-plated connectors are more corrosion resistant than tin-plated connectors, making them best for exposed, unmated connections in harsh environments. They’re also more wear resistant, so they can be mated and unmated for more cycles. Good for low-voltage analog circuits, they stand up to noise on signal lines better than tin-plated connectors.

Build-Your-Own Molex Circuit Board Connectors with Locking Tab

Connect wires to circuit boards with Molex Mini-Fit push-in connectors. These connectors are easier to detach than Amphenol PV connectors, so they’re often used for prototyping. A complete connector consists of a sleeve housing, sleeves, and a circuit board plug (all sold separately). To assemble these connectors, crimp sleeves onto your wires, then place them inside a sleeve housing. Once you’ve wired the sleeve housing, slide it onto a circuit board plug.

Circuit Board Plugs

Plugs have an alignment key that ensures the plug and housing are mated correctly, which is helpful when you can’t get a good look during installation. A locking tab holds the housing and plug together once they’re mated. To install the plug on your circuit board, push the contacts through the board’s holes and solder them in place. All plugs have gold-plated brass pins, which are more corrosion resistant than tin- or nickel-plated pins, so the electrical connection lasts longer.

Snap-In Pegs—Plugs with snap-in pegs relieve stress on the terminal when plugging and unplugging wires.

Build-Your-Own Molex Circuit Board Connectors

Connect wires to your circuit board with these Molex KK push-in connectors. A good choice for prototyping, they require less force to disassemble than Amphenol PV connectors. However, this means that they are less secure in more demanding applications.

Circuit Board Plugs

They also have an alignment key that ensures the plug and housing are mated correctly, which is helpful when you can’t get a good look during installation. 3D Printer Extruder Heating Elements


V6	Volcano	Mosquito

Replace damaged heating elements in your 3D printer, or switch them out to print at a faster speed or higher temperature. Also known as hotends, these heating elements receive filament from an extruder, melt it, and then pass it through a nozzle onto the part being printed. They are compatible with most fused filament fabrication (FFF) 3D printers. Changes to the heating element or temperature cartridge will also require a software update, or your printer may overheat.

Select a heating element with a voltage and extrusion type that match your printer.

V6—V6 heating elements are the industry standard. They heat up in minutes to melt most multipurpose and flexible filaments. All parts are precision-machined to print smoothly and prevent clogs. These heating elements are not designed for high-speed or high-temperature printing. They come fully assembled, which saves setup time and eliminates assembly mistakes.

Volcano—Volcano heating elements can print twice as fast as V6 and Mosquito styles. They fit nozzles with large openings, which allow more filament to flow through and result in a faster, stronger print. They come fully assembled, so setup is quick and error free.

Mosquito—For printing high-temperature filaments, such as PEEK and Ultem PEI, use Mosquito heating elements. They reach temperatures up to 149° C or 300° F higher than V6 or Volcano styles, so you can melt a wider variety of materials. These heating elements come with everything you need, and are partially assembled—you’ll need to connect the insertion heater and temperature sensor.

For Direct Feed Extrusions—In printers with a direct feed, the extruder is attached to the heating element, feeding filament directly into it.

For Tube Feed Extrusions—Tube feed extruders, also known as Bowden extruders, are mounted to the frame and pass filament through a tube to the heating element. Heating elements for tube feed printers come with tubing and a fitting that attaches to the extruder.

Protective Covers

Volcano

Shield your 3D printer's heating element, or hotend, from sticky filament buildup with these nonstick silicone covers. By repelling plastic and keeping the heating block clean, they increase the heating block's life and prevent stuck filament from dripping off and ruining prints.

Silicone is heat resistant, so these covers also insulate the heating block. An insulated heating block means more consistent extrusion temperatures and therefore better prints. The silicone also keeps heat away from the printed part to prevent it from warping.

Also known as socks, these covers are just as easy to put on and take off—slide on to install and peel off to remove.

Covers for heating block and nozzle protect the nozzle from PETG and other particularly sticky materials, which can gum up the nozzle. The material that surrounds the nozzle is very thin, though, so these covers wear out faster than covers that only protect the block.

Couple these adapters with a cord that matches your outlet and length requirements to run DC-powered electronics. Instead of plugging directly into an outlet, the body of these adapters sits on the floor or other surface, so it remains out of the way and won’t block multiple outlets. These adapters use switching regulation—they produce the stated voltage even when your outlet’s power or the power drawn by your device fluctuates. Most have an LPS low-voltage output, so if something fails inside these adapters, they’ll limit the risk of electrical shocks. They meet U.S., Canadian, and European safety standards. Many also meet U.S. and European standards for energy efficiency.

When choosing an adapter, match the output voltage and polarity of your device. Look for the polarity illustration on your device or the adapter you're replacing. The current you choose should, at a minimum, match your device. You can choose a higher current, but it will not improve performance.

IEC C14—Adapters with an IEC C14 input require power cords with a C13 socket. They have Class I shock protection and prevent electrical shocks with a combination of insulation and a protective ground.

To run DC-powered lab and medical equipment from your outlet, add a power cord with the plug style and length you need. These adapters meet strict IEC, UL, or ANSI/AAMI standards for use with medical devices. They also have a Means of Protection rating of 2xMOPP, which is the highest level of shock protection available for medical-grade power supplies, so in addition to using them with lab and medical equipment, you can use them with devices that come into contact with patients.

Unlike adapters with bodies that plug directly into an outlet, the body of these adapters rests on a desk or the floor, so it won’t block multiple outlets.

When selecting an adapter, make sure the DC voltage and amps for the pin output connection can handle the requirements of your device. Choosing a DC voltage and amps that are much higher than you need will not improve performance.

These adapters use switching regulation, which means they produce the stated voltage despite fluctuations in your outlet’s power and the power being drawn by your device. It also means they won’t get too hot.
