Tight-Tolerance Hardened Machinable 416 Stainless Steel Rods

The best balance of superior wear resistance, precision, and machinability. These 416 stainless steel rods come hardened to increase strength and resist denting and deforming. Precision ground to tight tolerances, they're all set to turn in your lathe.

416 is the easiest type of stainless steel to machine. Alloyed with sulfur, it cuts quickly without clogging your cutting tools. It won't wear down when it grinds against other metal parts, so it's a good choice for gears, screws, and shafts. It also maintains its corrosion resistance in temperatures as hot as 1200° F. However, it's not as corrosion resistant as other types of stainless steel, such as 304 and 17-4 PH.

Highly Corrosion-Resistant 316 Stainless Steel Rods

One of the most corrosion-resistant types of stainless steel, 316 stands up to the harshest chemicals, including bleach, chlorine, and phosphoric acid. It's a step up from 304, which has similar strength and temperature performance. Use it in a variety of marine and chemical-processing applications. Extreme-Strength 17-4 PH Stainless Steel Rods

Made from the most common PH stainless steel, these 17-4 PH rods combine the strength of 400 series stainless steel with the corrosion resistance of 300 series. Ideal for the most demanding applications, they’re often used to create fasteners, pipe fittings, and other cylindrical parts. They maintain their corrosion resistance in temperatures as hot as 1100° F. Also known as 630 stainless steel.

Long Rods

Heat Treatment Condition A—The most machinable and formable state of 17-4 PH stainless steel. These rods are a good option when you’re performing your own heat treatment. They can be heat treated to boost their yield strength up to 170,000 psi.
