Use pistol-grip bar clamps for delicate surfaces. They have a large clamp pad that won’t damage your workpiece. Slide the handle down the bar until it’s flush with your workpiece, then squeeze to lock it in place. Release these clamps with a trigger on the handle.
Ratcheting bar clamps are easy to position—pull the ratchet handle toward the bar to tighten against your workpiece, then press a button to release. A ratchet lock keeps them from loosening from vibration. A spring on the handle presses against the bar to keep it from sliding, even if it’s hanging upside down.

Attach clamp pads to the cap of bar clamps included in your kit for a better grip on workpieces. They have V-shaped grooves that apply pressure from two sides, so they can hug round workpieces or hold flat pieces at an angle.
